I have a new 2013 Trails Team FJC.
I'd like to modify the e-locker so that I can lock it when I want to, and not when the ECU says I can.

Right now it will only lock in 4L and only after the ECU registers one of the tires slipping.

I'd like to be able to lock it in 2WD and 4H and BEFORE one of the rear tires slips.

I can not find any info on how to do this on a late modle FJ.
I've searched, but aparently I am not a very good searcher.

I can find it for Taco's and 80's, but not a recent year FJ.

So, if someone would be so kind as to point me towards some instructions/directions on how to do this i would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

You might be a bit confused.

The e-locker is engaged with a switch and it locks the rear differential, regardless of wheel slip. Yes, it will only allow you to lock the rear diff when in 4-Lo. Yes, there is a "hack" for doing what you want for the "late-model FJC's", but you have a NEW model FJC.

You may be thinking of ATRAC, the traction control that engages in 4-Lo also, then there is TRAC which operates the rest of the time. That will operate when the ECU senses wheel slippage, but not the rear locker.

I don't know of any hacks for the new model FJC...

Thanks coach.
I'll keep looking for a solution.
I think the mod for a Taco will work, I guess I'll just have to wire it up and see.

And....the e-locker WILL NOT lock, even if the switch is engaged, until a wheel slips. I've tried it about 10 times, that's how it works.
Once it does lock it will stay locked.
When the button is pushed, (in Lo only) the icon on the dash will blink, blink, blink, until a wheel slips, then turn solid, which means it's locked.

I don't think I'm confused about ATRAC. ATRAC will not lock the locker when a rear wheel slips. However, ATRAC will employ (in Lo only) with the e-locker ON.

Also, don't know about earlier models but on my "new" model I can turn off TRAC and Stability in 2WD and 4Hi. Both disengage, along with ABS, when in 4Lo.

So I'm glad Toyota gave me the option to disengage TRAC and Stability because it's impossable to spin a donought (what we over here in NW Arkansas call "cut a cats-ass") with either of those functions engaged ! LOL
Now I just wish Toyota would have let me lock the danged locker when I want to!

What you're seeing is that sometimes the rear wheels have to turn or roll a small amount for the locker cogs to line up and slip into place, a common occurrence with these particular electric-activated lockers, but wheel slip is not required as a prerequisite for locker activation. If the cogs happen to be aligned, it will pop right in, but they're coarse enough that they hardly ever do. What I've learned to do with mine is to be sure and throw the switch about a truck length before I think I might need it in an obstacle, to give the cogs room to engage by the time I need the locker.

You need to be moving to engage the rear locker also to take it out... Just be careful not to turn to sharp or you'll Pop your rear diff!

Does anyone have info on the hack for the earlier FJCs? I'd love to be able to lock in 2WD and not just four low.
