Hi, just recently purchased a 2005 lx 470 last week. I recently got exposed to overlanding and prior to the lexus I purchased an horizon adventure trailer for a family of 5. I had a tahoe to pull it but it was only 2x4 so I made a leap to the lexus after much research. My first choice was a land cruiser but couldn't find any with "lower miles" that the wife would be happy with.

I already addedd a hitch reciever, change the serpentine belt, put a k&n filter, and changed the cabin filter. Finding the wire for the brake controller was a pain and hard to get to, I almost thought I got the wrong part.

The only problem noted from lx is the air conditioner only operates at max cold setting. With summer around the corner, I'd like to address that but haven't found any solutions from my google searches.

I just plan on lightly modding this as this will be the family rig. I'll be removing the side steps at some point and will be putting all terrain tires on. Possibly a front bumper and sliders down the road but my build be slow.

I just hit 85,000 miles with my trip to Anza Borrego and was wondering what people used to lubricate their propeller shaft and do you really retorque your propeller shaft bolts?

A few other questions:

What brands of lubrication is recommended? I will be using moble 1 for oil, but unsure about the front/rear differential and transfer case. I recently changed my wifes 4runner with mobile 1 gear oil.

I'm not too familiar with the ach and my worries are about loading a full truck and trailer and going on off road trails. My google search skills don't give me much information about how it works and considerations.

Any advise or recommendations on this rig is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome. I was just out in Anza Borrego this weekend with the family.

Everything you want to know about lubing drive shaft: The OFFICIAL clunk/thunk driveshaft thread

As for AHC and oils, just search for it. Upper right hand corner and search "This forum only" so you only get 100 related topics. Just about every question you have is going to have several topics already. Enjoy

Thanks for the directing me for the info. I was at Anza borrego this past Saturday. Just 3 kids and I while my wife worked the weekend. Tried to search for the slot but then one of the kids had an emergency nature calling and never got back out. We camped out at spit mountain and had little spurts of rain. Where did you camp? It was my first time out there

We were there Saturday too, but north of you. We just did a day trip with my 1 1/2 year old son. We did grapevine canyon road down to Borrego Springs and then we went Tule wash out to the Salton Sea. Split Mtn is a fun place. I grew up going out there a lot of stuff to see, slot is beautiful. Next time do the mud caves.
