Hey all, my name is Jimmy R from Maryland and I am the proud new owner of an 80 series LC. Coincidentally enough my neighbor is the PO and let me know he was selling so I jumped on it.

The LC in question is a 1997 factory triple locked with just over 200k, and I paid 7k for it.

The truck has brand new 33” nitro trail grapplers, the interior is decently clean, the exterior shows no signs of rust, starts right up and has so far proven it handles the snow very well.

The truck is in need of some TLC. There is a significant exhaust leak, the exterior is a little rough, some dents and scratches. Missing small interior parts here and there but nothing that will trigger my OCD.

I’ve wanted one of these legendary vehicles since I was in high school, and I’m beside myself with joy now that I own one.

Looking forward to this new project and I’m sure I’ll be tapping into the knowledge base here!

Welcome! I'm in Annapolis...happy to help with projects or advice anytime! 🦀

Thank you! Have you done the Assateague OSV area before?
Not yet with the 80, but out there with lots of rigs in the past! I have a condo in OC, no excuse not to schedule a beach trip this summer!

I plan on going soon after I button up some issues with the 80. It looks fantastic!

From our New Years Day run to Wolf Den near Deep Creek…

Small world. Although I live in Honduras I’m from Baltimore. We also have a place at OC. 133st. Assateague is fun for a weekend, you just have to pretend your fishing. Although last time while “pretending” to fish we brought in a 9 ft tiger shark 😅

LOL! My place is at 130th!
Largest catch of ours was my son's 4' dusky and some 36"+ bluefish.
@JWR1991 feel free to hit me up this winter/early spring if you need a cruiser buddy to hit the sand...it'll be a good reason for me to renew my national park pass anyway!

Nice! Near Northside Park?

Absolutely will. Heading down that way March time. I will definitely let you know. The annual pass is a little salty though!

Surprised that wasn’t all frozen?
Wasn't on New Years as we had a little warm spell then, but I bet it's freezing up now! It's 11 degrees outside right now at 8:00 a.m. and I'm at sea level...I'm sure it's closer to 0 up there in the mountains.

Yup! Right across the street on the ocean side. I'm not "ocean front" but tucked behind North Shore next to Banana Beach...perfect spot that will probably be waterfront one day! My unit faces the ocean and can often see the dolphins out in the surf while sitting out on the deck.

Sounds good...always looking for a reason to head down for the weekend. Agreed that the pass is a little pricey, but it gives a good reason to get down there more often if I get the annual (can use at other national parks too). I have plenty of pics in the woods, but none in the portfolio on the beach...;)🦀

I remember back in the day, the dune crossing path used to run up the back side all the way up to the last crossing point (about 10 crossings). Now they have you go straight on the beach and run down on the beach side and have eliminated the path on the bay side. Not a bad thing for the environment and wildlife, but fun when the whoops developed into big ponds! My earliest memory was in the back of my dad's CJ5 in the early 70's with us running about 30 mph trying to outrun the massive horseflies! Better memories though were catching tons of flounder when surf fishing...

Update, I just ordered my annual national pass...;)

Awesome! I need to order the OSV permit. I have the lifetime veteran park pass, but the OSV is a different story 🙄

Yeah, $100 for the year...it's a hard pill to swallow for a single visit, but a few times a year and it works out to be pretty inexpensive since it's a year long pass from date of purchase. My son is an avid fisherman from streams to shore and uses his often. I need to get down to the shore more this year...my wife and I have already discussed lots of long weekends instead of larger trips this year. We did Portugal 2 years ago and Iceland last year, but MD is an awesome state that has a lot to see and do too!

Also, any more info/pics of your new toy? Looks like a great rig to start and in my opinion, a great price for a triple locker with new tires and reasonable mileage for it's age.

I love MD, I am an avid wildlife photographer (mostly ((okay only)) birds) and our state has so much to offer. I like to hit the coast at least a few times a year. If I buy a pass, I'd have an excuse to go more, and take my family to a much quieter, cleaner beach than OC. That said, there's also so much to see in a long weekend trips time. The mid-atlantic, and ultimately the east coast as a whole have a lot to see.

One goal with the LC when I am finally confident with everything is to actually head out West, possibly on the Trans American Overland Trail and visit as many wildlife refuges as I can.

I purchased it on Monday, since we had that snow out here in WMD (I'm in Frederick Co, close to the Washington Co line) and I'm since back to work I haven't had as much time to dive into her. The PO ultimately had both axles rebuilt, the head gaskets been done, amongst a slew of other odds and ends I am happy with the 7k price. I'll take some more pictures soon and share them here! In the meantime, I am ordering all the exhaust parts I need so it doesn't sound like a go kart anymore!

Welcome to MUD !!

A friend of mine is an amazing amateur photographer.... check out Ted Morgan in Annapolis if you use Facebook (I think he's public). He was a preschool classmate of my wife's and still a friend today we're in our mid 50's. He shoots birds and other wildlife for fun plus local sailing and mountain bike race events.

I'd love to do a cross country in mine too...brought it home from AZ 3 years ago and drove it back through Sedona & Grand Canyon, then up to friends in Salida CO, up to the great lakes to another friend in Norwalk/Sandusky OH, and home through Pittsburgh. It was a great 9 day road trip, but I'd love to do it more on my own terms with a few weeks or more and do more national park stops.
