I've lurked these forums for the last 8 years. I've owned hdj81 and an 85 pickup and now I've got a 3rd Gen 4runner. I haven't modified it yet other than all the maintained ect. Put a bed in the back and have been using it for small camping trips.

I live in southern alberta Canada. Just north 250 MI from Great Falls Mt. I've explored much of Alberta, British Columbia and Montana. This year I'm planning a trip to moab and to explore the national parks in that area.

The rig:
1998 4Runner. Bought it with 350xxxkm, smashed in the front (clean title), for $1,000. I found a front end at a wreckers and got it for a favor. Then did waterpump and timing belt, full tune up, axles ears and wheel bearings and all fluids. The duratracks came with the rig when I bought it. So was pretty much full price for tires and a free, smashed project rig.

I'm going to buy 5100s, ome rear coils and trd front Springs. Seems to be the norm for a starter lift. I've also already got the 199mm tundra brakes. As well as an arb bumper and m8000. I've got everything priced out on amazon right now and even with my terrible exchange rate, I can still save about $600 buying south and shipping to the boarder depot in Montana. I'm only an hour north of the boarder and am a well tester in a oil field about 20 km north of the depot. So picking things up is not a hassle.

Any who, here's the rig:

More random pix

I cut hole to hole on both rigs to get the perfect piece to weld back to the body. Bought some paint matched rattle can and made it look like it never happened. The frame was straight as an arrow. It just ripped the body mount a bit so I cut one off another 4runner and welded it on my frame.

The front bumper was off a rolled tacoma. So that's why it doesnt fit properly. Signal lights were robbed so I temporarily have trailer marker lights till I install the arb bumper :'s I've put 11xxx km on it since I fixed it and she runs awesome. I've slept in it for around 30 nights. A futon mattress fits in there perfectly. Was a nice safe haven when cougars were in my camp every night in northern Vancouver Island.

As soon as I get parts installed, and some days off, I'm headed south to explore. I'm getting pretty excited.

Nice work!! Welcome to mud. I just traded my 3rd Gen for a 200 series Land Cruiser. She ran flawlessly and I'm sure is making someone happy.

Nice work putting that truck back together. Thats one hell of a deal!

Drove to Waterton for the day. Hiked up bears Hump and little walk up Cameron falls. I couldn't find my fishing rod before I left or I would have tried catching a couple trout for dinner. Next time I guess.
