I've lurked these forums for the last 8 years. I've owned hdj81 and an 85 pickup and now I've got a 3rd Gen 4runner. I haven't modified it yet other than all the maintained ect. Put a bed in the back and have been using it for small camping trips.
I live in southern alberta Canada. Just north 250 MI from Great Falls Mt. I've explored much of Alberta, British Columbia and Montana. This year I'm planning a trip to moab and to explore the national parks in that area.
The rig:
1998 4Runner. Bought it with 350xxxkm, smashed in the front (clean title), for $1,000. I found a front end at a wreckers and got it for a favor. Then did waterpump and timing belt, full tune up, axles ears and wheel bearings and all fluids. The duratracks came with the rig when I bought it. So was pretty much full price for tires and a free, smashed project rig.
I'm going to buy 5100s, ome rear coils and trd front Springs. Seems to be the norm for a starter lift. I've also already got the 199mm tundra brakes. As well as an arb bumper and m8000. I've got everything priced out on amazon right now and even with my terrible exchange rate, I can still save about $600 buying south and shipping to the boarder depot in Montana. I'm only an hour north of the boarder and am a well tester in a oil field about 20 km north of the depot. So picking things up is not a hassle.
Any who, here's the rig:
