New member here, imported a 1999 HZJ77 from Japan. I’m active duty Navy and stationed in Guam (second time here). Very happy with the truck. I’ve been a Land Rover guy for nearly 20 years and am dipping my toe in the Toyota world. Still own two 110 Defenders, one here with me in Guam and one stateside with my kids.

Shock bushings are knackered. Tried stock shock bushings (part number 9038519003), but the two-piece bushings are too large to fit in the eyes of the rear shocks. Additionally, bushing I took out is a one-piece bushing. Attaching pictures of the part number stamped on the shock, which I’ve googled, but no luck. The truck has 4x4Engineeing shackles. I’ve been to the 4x4Engineering website and don’t see any corresponding shocks with the same part numbers on mine. I may just have 4x4Engineering shackles and nothing else. The shocks are white with baby blue boots. The shocks are still very stiff, so I would like to avoid replacing the shocks just to get the right bushings.

Thanks in advance!

-Neil

Hello,

OEM bushings are intended to fit OEM shocks. By design, they do not wear out evenly because the two pieces cannot move.

Some aftermarket bushings have a different design that allows movement and thus even wear.

You can try bushings from, for instance, OME or Terrain Tamer. If I remember correctly, they are single piece parts.

I would take the chance to replace shackle bushings as well.
