Guys and gals. Im just beginning my search for an FJ 40 and have a couple questions. first one is pretty dumb but genuine. Im 6'3" 235 am I going to fit behind the wheel with leg room or are my knees going to be under my chin. #2 Ive seen a nice looking fj 40 (BJ 40) with a 4 cylinder diesel within my price range (low 20's) Does the diesel have highway speed or is this a tree stump puller. Im not looking for a race car but I will be driving it regularly.
Thanks for your patience

Typical BJ40 will do neither highway speeds or pull tree stumps.
As for your physical size your best bet is to test drive one, and my best advice for buying a 40 series is to never buy sight unseen.

Steve is in your area (St Pete) and is selling a really good 40 @FL cruiser

What Matt said on the diesel power levels. Most BJ40's are 4 wheel drum brake all the way through 1984. Many don't have heat or defrost. Most are four speeds with low gearing. With the RPM limitations of a diesel, they aren't suited for highway driving.

BUT, all the above can be overcome with 5 speed, turbo, and disc brakes. Then you have one awesome vehicle.

My dad had BJ 40's, HJ45's Troopys, etc when I was growing up. Spent alot of time driving them. I'm 6'5" 235 and now that I'm older just can't comfortably drive a 40 or especially a 45.
