I know this has been discussed at great length, and I am aware of the attempted conversion from non-nav to nav...but, has anyone done this, and is there any reason that it would not be a viable option for a factory nav 100? mine is missing the cd player:( could i still use the nav? THANKS IN ADVANCE! I have searched...and searched. I am still trying to navigate the site, so SORRY IN ADVANCE if this is a stupid question

I don't understand what the question is? The photo shows a non-OEM set up. Is that yours and is there a problem? As you know from your searching, you can't reasonably add factory nav to a non-factory nav LC nor replace factory nav with an aftermarket system. If you start with a non-factory nav system, you can add aftermarket nav. And, isn't that a CD slot in the system in the photo?

Sorry, I'll try to clarify...
1) I have factory nav
2) I have no CD drive in the center console under the armrest
3) My nav DOES currently work
4) I have factory tape deck

I would like to remove/replace the tape deck with an aftermarket CD unit
--best I can tell from the photo is that:
1) It is not american
2) All else looks to be stock (nav, climate, etc.)
3) It appears that all that was done is a replacement of the factory tape deck for an aftermarket cd player?

has anyone seen or heard of this? are there any opinions on how this would work?

thanks for your response!
Ed

I don't know much about the radio design in the pre '03 LC's, but I can't see a reason why you can't simply replace the OE tape deck with an aftermarket CD player unless the OE tape deck controls the NAV? In my '03, the OE tape deck controls the 6 CD changer under the arm rest, but not the NAV. Making it look good is another story.

haha, agreed! it will definitely take some effort to look good, but i think it is doable in that regard. my 02 tape deck is the same way, it controls the radio, and the cd player under the armrest, and NOT the nav. I currently don't have the cd player under the armrest though, so i don't have a cd player at all. i'm stuck using one of those tape deck inverter things connected to my ipod or the radio. i would like to have the option for cd's back and an aux option.

it makes sense to me that this would work, i'm just looking from guidance and to see if anyone has tried it. this site has so much knowledge, and i have gotten so much help from you guys...even without being a member!

thanks for the reply

I just did an online chat with Crutchfield and they basically said that it can't be done without a custom installation because the OE radio is tied into the NAV.

I thought maybe the photo was not the OPs, because it looks to be from a right hand drive, for starters. The audio controls show up on the NAV screen in my '04, both when adjusting the audio with the radio/CD control knobs, and when using the Audio button on the dash. So there is some integration and perhaps a lot of integration if the interconnection includes the amp. Someone may have invented a harness to connect an aftermarket radio/CD/DVD to the LC with factory NAV, but I've not seen one and I'm sure it's not a routine plug and play. I would not assume anything from the non-US spec photo the OP found. And, given the extraordinary cost of the NAV unit(s), I would be VERY careful with experimenting.
