New Member and Prospective 250 Owner

I'm in the market for a new semi-off-road vehicle. I've been a Wrangler owner for north of 15 years, but am in the market for something different. After researching my options, and considering a number of Toyota/Lexus vehicles, I've landed on a 250.

My off-road driving has tempered over the past few years and has been relegated to more moderate trails which include occasional winch usage, dented skid plates, and minor dings. I'm considering a small lift and going to 35s, adding a new front bumper/winch, some rails, and some other mods that don't impact performance.

Obviously, the starting point in any build is the vehicle. I'd love some opinions, given my off-road driving profile and desired mods, as to what 250 trim/model would be the best foundation. Cost is always an issue, but not the issue.

There are only two trims, one being extremely simple (1958) and stripped of most modern upgrades, and the other with nearly every option in the book (Premium). If you want leather-covered a$$ blowers, a ginormous Nav screen, and the electronic disconnecting sway-bar, then you'll have to spend more for the Premium. If you can get by with cloth seats, a manual lift gate, and only three color options, then you can likely save $12K+ and get the cheaper 1958 trim. Dealers around here are sitting on quite a few of the 1958 models; they are priced near a higher trim 4Runner but with a lot less in the way of options and features, so they tend to sit and not sell. If I were in the market for one, I'd be attempting to pick one up for invoice, or better, any more, and they can keep it.

Some have stuffed 35's on these in stock form with lots of trimming, but it doesn't take much in the way of a lift to fit them properly. Throw on some proper skids, sliders, and maybe a lo-pro front bumper and call it a day.

I appreciate the insight. Sounds like I should get the 1958 and mod it out from there.
