Hey All,

I've been lurking anonymously for a while, reading the FAQ and trying to be self-reliant as much as possible.... but I just wanted to say "Hello" and THANKS for creating such a helpful forum for the UZJ100 platform. It was pretty awesome to come here, find the technical DIY area and see that just about every single repair that I was curious about has already been thoroughly documented step-by-step.

Kudos to all of you for that.

I'm not sure what the exact "demographic" for this forum is, but here's a bit about me.

I purchased my 2001 LCA about 10 years ago, and it served daily-driver duties for several trouble-free years. Somewhere along the line my wife adopted this vehicle for herself because her own car (Volvo S80) was so unreliable and expensive to maintain. She has fallen in love with this truck and because it seems to run forever without asking for much in return (maintenance-wise) she has dubbed it the "Land Cruiser Amazing"..... the name Land Cruiser is simply not descriptive enough!! :)

As it has now reached it's "teenage years" I think it's time for me to take ownership of this car again, and let my bride move into something a bit newer, perhaps with a warranty(?). I am actually looking forward to going through this truck from front-to-back and dealing with a host of small items that have fallen into disrepair over the years.... and then a thorough detailing inside and out to clean up the paint, vacuum out pounds of animal cracker and goldfish cracker crumbs, etc. It has been a loyal and trustworthy member of our family, and it's time to bring her back to her original glory.

At only 130,000 miles.....she seems (from the reading I've been doing around here at least) to still have MANY more miles and years ahead of her!.....

I look forward to hanging out around here and picking up tips and ideas along the way.

Thanks!

Thanks...

It will be a fun experience to get back to DD'ing this vehicle. I'd like to add a few new convenience items (like wireless or BT streaming) if there's a way to do it cheaply. In the olden days I used a small FM Transmitter plugged into the top of my iPod (Classic) which worked OK. If I can find a hardwire kit that works with the factory radio that would be even better. Wireless streaming is convenient, but the fidelity isn't all that good.

.....of course, before I can complain about fidelity I should probably replace the blown DS door speaker! <- One of those small projects I mentioned previously! LOL.

Welcome. It's nice to have new members; with 10 years of ownership experience to boot! If you're looking for something newer, how about a 2002 Land Cruiser ;) It seems like you are a perfect couple for his and hers! Once you're done with the cracker clean up and mechanical baselining, you'd have to look for a while to find something more solid and reliable made nowadays (in any sort of reasonable price range). Audio is a great first mod, so have at it.

Yessir!

If I'm being 100% honest the LCA was a passionless, sensible purchase decision back when I first got it.

I was just looking for something comfortable that would handle New England winters without any drama.... back then I had a long daily commute and I just wanted a no-excuses way to get to work regardless of the weather.

Over time, it has really won me over and become a more beloved part of the family. My own car purchases since that time have proven to be maintenance nightmares..... so I'm glad to be getting back to a reliable car!! :)

Audio? Why yes... I've already found an interesting thread here about the GROM-USB3 & GROM-BTD (iPhone and Bluetooth Handsfree calling)... there goes a quick $200 already!!!.....
