Hi guys - been lurking the mud forum for over a year and finally picked up my first "cruiser" this weekend. I'm on my 2nd 4x4 Tacoma and just got a '99 LX470 for the wife. Got it from the original owner with extensive service history at Lexus. 127k miles and paid $11k. The My Lexus website says that the 90,000mi service was done but I don't have a sticker in the engine compartment verifying the date or mileage of the work...I may have to dig deeper and any pointers would be welcome.
It is possible that I will need to do the TB/water pump which isn't the end of the world because I think I got a decent deal on the truck either way. I'm busy combing the forum for ideas on how to "freshen" a 13 year old truck and what types of baseline maintenance should be performed first. Seems to be in very clean shape with 1 small ding on the hood and the typical cracking in the driver's seat leather. My plans are to build it up mildly to take over for our 4 door Tacoma on expeditions throughout the West. Plans include:
- Figure out the AHC and whether I want to keep it or ditch it for an OME lift
- Inspect bushings/control arms
- Check brakes
- Research Timing belt job and make sure it was done - if not, gotta tackle it
- Select tires to go with 18" Tundra steelies a stock to 1.5" lift ride height
- Slee sliders
- Remove running boards
- Get weathertech mats
- Seat covers for the front
- Figure out how to hook up my ipod to the Nakamichi sound system
- Get an alignment (pulls to the left)
- Change the oil
- Should I take it to the dealership for a tranny flush?
- Should I get a radiator flush?
- Ball joints and CV boots are fine
- Change out diff fluids
- Grease driveshaft u joints to see if it will eliminate the clunk when shifting into drive or reverse from park.
- Down the road I would like to add bumpers
Any comments or advice is greatly appreciate and I will continue to comb the forum for the great info throughout. Obligatory pic:
