Hey everyone! My name's Erek. I'm from Chicopee, Massachusetts and I just recently bought an 86 HJ60 for a daily driver.

The rig has quite the history. It started out in Canada, was bought by a young couple in Alaska who fitted it with all sorts of of road equipment and then set out of an expedition from Anchorage south to Tierra del Fuego (the southern tip of South America) and then had it shipped back to AK. This was all done in the late summer months of 2002.

Then it was sold to the previous owner before me in September of 2003 while he was stationed at Eielson AFB in Anchorage. He was then transferred to a local base a couple towns away from me this past year and now with his transfer to Tuscon, AZ, he didn't want to take it with him. That's how I came by it.

Now it needs a little body work but mechanically it's more sound than my Wagoneer with a third of the mileage AND a rebuild! I'll post up some pictures as soon as I dig out my digital camera! Thanks for having me guys! I'll definately be posting up threads with issues that come along :) I actually have one now - but I'll make a new thread for that.

- Erek

Welcome Erek! I think you'll like it around here. Sounds like a great find,
especially it being a diesel.

Welcome. Definitely post some pics.

Hey there I'm new to the board as well.
What sort of mileage do you get with the BJ?

Good luck

Hey - yea, I'm retarded. I just noticed after reading your post and getting a puzzled look on my face that I wrote in BJ instead of HJ! It's an HJ - and so far I can't tell what the mileage is because the previous, previous owners installed a 42 gallon tank and the fuel gauge is completely off. I filled it about two days ago and when I refill it I'll do the math and let you know :)

Thanks mot.

And to answer your question Thor - I just filled the tank today to get a baseline and after converting km to mi it looks like I averaged 18.8mpg with combined 70/30 of city/highway driving. Not too shabby with the new low-sulfer fuel!
