Hi all, I'm new to the forums and just found out about JSC. I'm 39 and live in GP. I have a 85 fj 60 that runs great but has a rusty swiss cheese body. I rescued her out of the weeds and am just trying to keep her on the road and on the trail until I can get another 60 without rust for a proper build. I'm by no means a mechanic but I'm very mechanically inclined. I'm trying to do as much myself as possible, but def would love some advice and knowledge from you guys. Please direct me to where to join. Thanks again

Awesome thank you! I'm social network retarded so I don't fave a Facebook page anymore lol.

Welcome, how'd you find us? I've got a 87 FJ60, what have you done to cruiser?
I found out that if you google search almost ANYTHING about fixing old land cruisers the Mud forums come up at the top of the list. Once I found Mud I was directed here... As far as what I've done... The flywheel was cracked and got replaced, new alt, water pump, plugs, wires, filters, pretty much general maintenance that got ignored for years. Now I'm trying to get a handle on rust holes through the swiss cheese body. Shell never be a show truck and I'm def no body man but I'm wire wheeling and cutting out bad metal and glassing it back. Just trying to keep her on the trail a bit longer.

 'mud is the go to for ANYTHING LC related :)

Good to see here. if you are into metal I have a carcass that has some parts that you might be able to pull some metal out of but its pretty hammered and the rear wheel wells are cut-out. Drive it and enjoy- if you can keep it out of the wet the rust will slow down a lot!

Ha, I just did a new speedo cable and eliminated the cat on mine too. If you need help welding in rust repair panels let me know. I've never been a fan of fiberglass rust repair but I suppose if you do it right it will hold up as long as you don't touch any solid objects with it.

Thanks a bunch!! Truth is this 60 will actually end up being my "donor" truck. It runs great but its hammered as far as rust goes. I know where there's another 60 available to me that is absolutely perfect in the rust department. I'm just patching this ol girl up to make her look a Lil better while she's still in the road. Make no mistake her days are numbered. Soon as I get a real build going I'll be looking for all kinds of hands on help. I do have a nice garage but it is not set up for auto mechanics unfortunately
