This is typical. These people are not as smart as my almost 8 year old daughter! She knows that the historic Russian sniper rifle on display in the living room is presumed to be loaded. (In fact, it really is loaded). She understands that she should never place a finger on the trigger unless she plans to kill something. They assume that an 8 year old is incapable of respecting a weapon. They are wrong!
A child has a much higher fear of weapons than any adult has. Lessa loves little critters. She knows that even her light pellet gun can be deadly. She understands that at the far end of the trajectory is a dead bird. She will not allow that to happen. She understands that guns are to be pointed only at targets unless we are threatened.
I've passed on to her my Dad's early lesson, "never be rude first". If the other person is rude first, give them a second chance, and a third. If they still don't get it, slap them down! They need it!

Brian, there you go making assumptions that the parents need to be in charge of teaching/molding/outlining life for their children. Why cant we just let the government do it for us so we can all go back to goofing off. This way if something happens we can blame someone else!

I have no desire to blame anyone else. I am a DAD.
My kid knows what is right and what is wrong. And I still goof off. It's not that hard! I can do this.
If you really know what you believe in, it's easy. Just teach the child right from wrong. It takes an idiot to blur the line between the two. I do not listen to idiots.
