My buddies here in CO are into it. they find stuff all over. good for the GPS skills I guess.

Heard of it but never found anything. I do benchmark hunting which is found on that site too. It is very fun and can take you too some cool places. Some are old lookout sites here in the NW.

Most of the guys on the website are a little geeky. Are there any places specifically challenging for off-roaders such as ourselves?

yes most of the people doing that stuff is alittle geeky (sorry for all the normal people doing it too). I have not heard of any geocache that are good to wheel too buy some of the benchmarks are. Just depends on which ones you go looking for. I only use the site for refernce to old lookout towers. Most of the old towers had benchmarks at there location. I have been to many old tower sites(most towers are long gone) and the roads to find them are pretty rough. I also spend my time exploring old mines sites and stuff like that. I use Ozieplorer maping software and all kinds of GIS info to find stuff. It can be very exciting.

I keep hoping that geocaching will catch on in Costa Rica, but so far... no dice.

Then again, I haven't left a cache yet either.

hmm....

It's good fun...

It is a blast to do. My kids love it. What better than actual treasure hunting and finding the treasure. My 7 year old son operates the gps and my 2 year old daughter loves to tag along and hunt. We have hiked for miles in the appalachian mountains finding caches. Walked beaches in NC and SC, hiked mountains in Pennsylvania and Maryland and it is great stuff. What is so great about it is it takes you to local spots that you would never know existed. Locals hide them in there favorite unknown getaways. We went to an ancient stone causeway in NC at Fort Fisher where US 421 begins. Never would have known what it was otherwise. Found a nudist island in NC (not that great, unless you like the nude male body). Some here in Kentucky you have to have an extremely capable vehicle to get to. If you don't like the great outdoors, don't like hiking, don't like hunting and solving riddles or finding clues, don't like discovering a bit of history and don't like driving the road less traveled then yep, it's not much fun. Some of the caches have been hanging in trees, tied to limbs. Some are really hard to find, some pretty easy. Kids get to trade stuff. Sometimes they get some pretty neat stuff. Lot better than McDonald happy meals anyway, not that that says a whole lot. I recommend it, it is a good time. I probably would not do it if I didn't have kids, that is what makes it so fun for me. Cheers.

IF I had GPS I'd be into it, but I don't so I'm out of luck for now. I hear it's pretty cool and that there are "treasurers" all over the place. Enjoy!
