Hi all! I'm new to the forum. I've got a tan FJ60 truck that I love to drive, but it's primarily a driveway ornament these days. I've had the truck for 20 years, and am the second owner. It's on its third engine, and the engine is in decent shape. The body's so-so - it could use some body work and a paint job. The interior could use some work, too - it's passable, but it's definitely seen better days. I'm on the fence about selling as-is to someone who has mechanical know-how and would like to do some restoration work, or investing some money to have some costly upgrades done by a specialist. I took the truck to a local specialist who estimated the work I'd like to see done would cost anywhere from $50k to $90k - definitely not even close to the ballpark of something I can afford. I suppose I'm hoping ya'll can offer some advice on a good way to go if 1) I love the truck, 2) I don't have the time or experience to do my own engine & body work 3) I need to get some updates done to my truck to make it a safe and reliable family vehicle and 4) I need to have body work done to slow its deterioration. Overall, the truck's pretty solid, but the longer I wait on this, the more that'll need to be repaired. Has anyone here been stuck in this boat before? Should I get a second opinion from another specialist on what work could/should be done for a lower price? Any recommendations on where to go in the Portland area for this? I'd really love to hang onto this truck if possible - it's painful to think about giving it up. Thanks for your input!
