hey guys well im not shure if youve know but i purchased an fj60 a while back but my dad wanted to keep it so he took it but now i purchased myself a 1986 Fj60 for $1300 cant go wrong nice interior and exterior is nice except for some little dings and a small hit on the quarter panel other than she runs great needs a new water pump and radiator...

now heres the question hard to replace the water pump? anything i should know about???? theres a crack in the stock radiator so im gonna send it off to get welded while i replace the water pump??? other than that im gonna be replacing the vacuum lines but what a mess how hard is it to remove all emmisions is there a step by step with pics???? and im not shure ive seen people remove the factory ait filter setup and just put a little filter on top of the carb?? what do you guys think about that????
Thanks

Any chance of losing the hood pins?

thats a for shure chance the reason they put the hood pins is because the hood wouldnt stay closed well a new hood latch fixed the problem.... i just need to remove the metal around the hood now

aircleaner

I would encourage you to keep the stock air cleaner. It has features that help your rig warm up quicker and run more efficiently. There are parts of the emmisions paraphenalia that can be removed. Check this board there are some posts in the technical section and much discussion here on the subject (do search). Good luck.

i tried using the search function but i cant find a step by step with pixs mayb i just sucks at using the search function lol... does k&n make an air cleaner for the fj60?

K&N makes an air filter that fits in the stock air cleaner. I suppose one of their "universal" filters & housings would fit the carburetor, but you'd be left with the air filter exposed and you would have no chance of installing a snorkel in the future. The open air filters are used for applications where the engine needs a lot of air flow (that is, large displacement at high RPM's). I don't think the 2F revs that high to require the high air flows. I agree with the others to keep the stock air cleaner, even if you do a desmog.

The water pump replacement is pretty easy. Replace it when the radiator is removed. You'll need a new pump and the gaskets and maybe some new hoses. Depending on how things look you might think about replacing all the hoses while you've got the coolant drained out. There are about 20 different hoses on an FJ-60 with oil cooler and rear heater (I recently paid $250 at the dealer for a full set). It's also a good time to change the three fan belts.

I recommend you replace the vacuum lines with silicone rubber. the silicone holds up much better to the heat and doesn't get hard.

Keep the stock filter. K&N filters are for racing and do not provide a high level of filtration, thats why the airflow has less restriction.

Looks like a good deal. The engine rebuild kit would have cost as much as you paid:D

sounds good ive gotten into it already plans to start taking apart the water pump n stuff like that today but i have a friend who works at toyota whos gonna give me prices on some stuff heres a list of what i plan to do before trailing really...

spark plugs
wires
rotor cap
oil change

radiator (has a crack in it)
3 new belts

also tho has anyone seen or have a link to removing emmisions a step by step with pictures???

i still need a new fan and a fan shroud some how it got torn up and check the brakes but well see ill give you guys a heads up

You might seriously think about replacing rather than repairing the radiator. The OEM radiators are overpriced IMO, but damn decent, exact fit units are availible from many sources including Performance Radiator.com and Radiator.com.

Man-a-Fre has aluminum radiators, and I'm sure others do too. CCOT has standard radiators on sale right now. Much cheaper than the aluminum. If you're going to stay with the 2F engine, I don't think you need the aluminum radiator. I don't have any problems with overheating on mine.

When I bought my FJ-60, the PO didn't disclose the radiator was leaking, but I should have guessed when he pulled a "spare" radiator out of his garage. I had the spare recored at a local shop for about $150 and it's been fine for seven years.

i might have to take a pic but my radiator doesnt look anything like a factory radiator my dad has an all orginal fj60 but my radiator looks much more thicker he says something like a 4 core radiator???? any ideas?
TwEaK

I just found a radiator wholesale place they had a 4 core replacement, cant remember how much bolted right in, i since changed to and electric fan after my other one sheared off the waterpump and went threw the radadiator . Look in the yellow pagesim sure you can find wholesale shop near you.By the way looks like you got a good deal

$1300 sounds like a pretty good deal.

Congrats!
