Hello,
Something near and dear to many of us...the notion of Toyota vs. Jeep, seems to be a continuous battle in the off road world between two of its icon brands....similar to the bench racing of Chevy vs. Ford and the challenges between those two brands at the dragways of the US, which began during the 60's.
Awhile back I was going to plan a trip to my familys house in Southern Maine that is in a lakes region. I didnt end up having the event, but this weekend am having a small group up and we are going to check out the areas trails.
I did some research and it turns out that there are plenty of off road trails and there is a National Off Highway Vehicle Conservation Council representative in the town where my family has their house.
It will take some planning, but I would like to plan a regional Jeep versus Toyota challenge. I know a decent amount of people with both types of vehicles and would use the appropriate forums for each to promote such an event. Maybe a later summer or Labor Day Weekend event.
I have worked on, and thankfully have been successful with running surf and skate events in the past, as well as fundraisers for homeless families every year through my work, I am sure with some luck and assistance, a regional event close to Boston could be organized. I am sure it would draw people from Maine, Mass, NH, VT and even NY or Southern Canada such as Nova Scotia.
This is what I am thinking it would involve:
-A few different categories of best Jeep, best Toyota
-Trail rides
-Mud bog type races
-Rock crawl, difficult terrain crawling
-BBQ and tenting
-Maybe even some off road how to from experts, should we gain some corporate sponshorships for prizes, awards
These are my thoughts, and if I can garner some interest I am going to work on setting it up. I have been in contact with the NOHCC rep and also am fairly certain that local sponsorship could be had.
Let me know if there is interest.
Regards, Tim
