Dang it, that kind of sucks...

100% agree. But, Chevy has Duramax, Ford has the PowerStroke, and Toyota I don't think would ever outsource the powertrain (maybe I'm not fully versed on that last point, but I don't think that has ever happened). I would think Dodge may offer it in one of their 1500's at some point???

I'm happy to see this though as it's one more step towards the Dieselization of the US. I think Chevy will be forced to roll out the smaller Dmax that on a shelf somewhere - 4.5L 310/520. I'm biased, but that is a smaller displacement with similar or better numbers to that Cummins, and if anything like the current powerplants, I'd assume it's quieter and maybe even more efficient.

Actually if reports are true the exact same motor will be in the Tundra.

Cummins exec let slip at the unveiling of the titan that they made enough of the 5.0s for Nissan and "another" company... then a few weeks later the rumors started swirling about the Tundra and Toyota has done nothing to squash them like they normally do with rumors like that.

And yes hopefully this will force GM to use the stockpile of 4.5 D-maxes they have on the shelves. And then release the 3.0 D-max motor that they put in Isuzu trucks overseas. (Basically the colorado) and then others will follow suit.

I love the inline 6 Cummins motors, but producing a V8 seems to the best way for Cummins to fit a diesel into a full size truck.

This motor in a Tundra would be a hard combo to beat. I can only hope that this motor will have the same longevity that the 12 valve motors have.

Nice package fore sure and the V8 will make it easier to move the drive line farther forward if used in a swap. Can only imagine the price of this motor in a crate.

Not that I'll be doing any swaps in the future, but why something this size over the 3.0L diesel Ram/Jeep is using now? That engine has very respectable numbers (and a huge bump over any pre-200 LC engine), better packaging, availability, etc. and I bet price as well. It's not like any LC's will be towing 20k lb construction trailers, so aside from winning any schlong size comparos, I guess I don't get it.

Its a cummins thing ;)
No actually given the choise i'd most likely go with the VM in the ram due to weight savings and the numbers it puts out are good enough for a cruiser.

If it goes according to plan then you should be able to get this in the Titan in a bout a year for the 2016 model.... only 3 years after it was first announced... not too bad I guess. Since all Toyota has done is hinted and not confirmed or announced maybe the tundra will get one by 2020 :hillbilly:
