New cable Old winch

Hey guys I have a Warn xd9000i winch on my 93 FJ80. I pulled off the old winch cable (Kinked up pretty bad) and found that there was no retainer bolt into the drum. I bought the winch used and wasn't expecting this! I have another Warn winch but it had the retainer bolt. Is there a certain method to starting the line? Thanks!
