Well I finally found myself here, after asking around online.

(Anybody part of the CLCC chapter? Your website looks semi abandoned! I almost concluded it wasn't active anymore, until I was told otherwise by somebody in Blue Ridge chapter.........just FYI, that's all.)

I live in Arlington, and just bought an FJ.

First things first.

Where do I go????? I do a lot of hiking, but don't really know any off road destinations. Can anybody suggest some good routes where I can enjoy my new vehicle, without going overboard? I am fairly familiar with the aea toward the west end of 66.

Good Day!!

Thanks to Felix, Sebastian, John Smith, Dan, Ross and others, CLCC still exists...perhaps not as big as it once was, but it's an active club.

If you like to hike out west of 81, go to Elizabeth's Furnace, Stony Creek, 2nd Mountain, etc. I have mountain biked extensively out there, waaay more fun than wheeling if you ask me.

You can wheel a little bit out there as well - 2nd Mountain, Dictum's Ridge, and other other areas in the GW national forest. Take 33 west out of Harrisonburg to the Brandywine recreational area and start from there. Lots of cool trails to explore but nothing hardcore. Dictum ridge is decent pucker factor for a stock truck.

I think they still meet first Wednesday of the month at Alexandria Toyota - not a bad location for you from Arlington.

Thanks for the info!

I will start with those locations. (The bike trail tips were an added and unexpected bonus...I bike as well. I went from running, to hiking, to biking, now driving. Anything my deteriorating knee will allow for me to be outdoors....)

About CLCC, I plan to be there next Wednesday, I guess I will meet a few of those mentioned.

Thanks again, enjoy the sun over there!!

Sounds like we have more in common, I have a bad knee as well.

Closer to DC - rides and hikes, no wheeling available in nova since 20+ years ago...there used to be though.

Billygoat trail in Potomac Md

Scott's Run in Greats Falls VA - hike but no bikes :( - used to be a great ride. I'd still go there at night though.

Riverbend in Great Falls - great ride and hike - very technical ride along the river.

River to rails - Michael Faraday drive in Reston to Great Falls along an old packmule route - then great falls to river bend - great ride.

Power lines in Burke - awesome ride take 123 out almost to Lorton, you can ride to Springfield and hook up with the trails around Burke lake.

Fountainhead in Burke/Fairfax

Wakefield right at the beltway and 236

Great little trail behind the elementary school on Fox Mill rd. in Oakton

There is also a great little ride on River road in MD - take river rd past out away from the beltway. Park just past the first bridge and pick up the trail going north. Awesome after work ride.

Welcome! You might have emailed me. And I might have taken a ridiculously long time to get back to you. If so, sorry about that.

Hopefully, I break my slump and be there to meet you at Wednesday's meeting!
