Well, bit the bullet and ordered two new Odyssey 34R batteries for the beast yesterday. My secondary battery is fried (barely holds 10v and was down to 8.5v frequently at DRV. Dead!! Primary is just over 5 years old (Sears Platinum) and am just going to change it out to be conservative/safe.
4 Wheel Parts in Santa Ana never answered their phone yesterday (three tries) so I ordered them online from Auto Anything - $249+tax and free shipping! Got the Fedx ground notice - shipping from Carson, CA-no doubt an Odyssey distribution facility! Should have them easily by the weekend to put them in myself. Opted not to go with Sears Platinum again as I don't know how much longer Sears is going to be around.
That being said, and because of my anal nature and not wanting to fry my electronics, I should probably do the secondary battery first as it's separated from the primary when the truck is off. Think I need to disconnect the positive terminal first? Quite frankly, I've never watched the Sears guys install a battery and don't know if it really makes a difference, but would think logically that this would be a 'more correct' way to go to avoid any electrical issues??? EDIT - Pep Boys site says disconnect ground first on removal of old battery then positive and reverse of that on installation.
Only battery I've put in myself was the secondary when I added it to the truck and that was 6-8 years ago!
See, I told you this was an anal question from a one
