Hi there,

Just bought a 2004 UZJ100 after months of searching. Unfortunately the previous owner removed the factory roof rack! (There are a few other things to fix / iron out too of course...)

Is there a place I can buy an aftermarket replacement that fits into the old factory holes? There are 6 total posts. The end goal is to get rails so I could mount standard yakima/thule cross-bars onto them. Basically what is the easiest way to do this?

I saw http://www.gamiviti.com/ may have this figured out, but they have an entire rack/basket, I'd prefer to keep it simple/modular as there is a variety things I want to put on the roof. I did a lot of searching of this forums and several threads but none of them seemed conclusive (of course I could have missed something!)

Also if someone has an OEM system for sale let me know!

Thanks!!!
Peter

Bikes, kayaks, paddle boards, oar frame for a boat, lumber trips, etc... I want something versatile but no roof top tents or anything permanent, no huge load-carrying ability needed :) I already have a thule cross-bar system I can move over from another car and then everything else attaches to those, the thing I need is the rails. Doesn't seem like there is an aftermarket rail system, or at least I can't find it. The closest thing I see is the Rhino Rack which is modular and has the option to just have 3 cross-bars using feet that mount in the factory holes, which may be a good option (and they do have tons of options for add-ons).

Thanks!

I don't think you missed anything. I've been researching a similar solution...tho I do have the factory rack. It seems the main option to run Yakima or Thule bars is either the railgrabber( yakima) or crossroads (thule) which mount to the factory siderails but bypass the stock crossbars. I'm still working on some custom possibilities but they're all going to require fabrication.
There are a ton of aftermarket roof racks but (I think) all will require some adapters to use your Thule accessories. If you're willing to start over on a rack system the Rhino rack stuff is awesome and has a ton of options. Or with a little modification the Gamiviti has great potential.

Have you looked at the LabRaK mounts? They mount in your current mount locations, accept Thule & Yakima load bars and if you decide on a basket or flat rack later, you have mounts for it. Not cheap, but from those who have the LabRaK products will tell you, you get what you pay for.

I just installed the Front Runner system. Very modular, plenty of accessories. If you're in need of a factory system I have the factory rack from my '04 LC. Pm me if interested. I'm in Denver.
