Hello,

I am a proud new owner of a 2006 LC with AHC. I want to go with a 2.5" lift from Slee. I am having trouble deciding between the heavy or medium load kit. When looking at the Slee site and comparing the kits the only difference between the 2 are the rear coil springs and $58.

Can anyone tell me if the medium load coil springs are noticeably smoother than the ones on the heavy? If there is not that much of a difference than why not spend the extra $58 and just get the heavy, right? That is my dilemma, I am not planning to put on an aftermarket front/rear bumper on this year. The vehicle will be my daily commuter for about a year and then I will work on turning it into a weekend expedition machine. I do some off roading but nothing major. I also camp, fish and hike when I can. I purchased the LC because of its capability and my 4 Runner was starting to get a little to small once loaded up. So my question once again is, Are the medium lift coil springs that much smoother, comfortable than the heavies?

Thanks.

You'll find some good information on this site discussing lift and spring options.

I can't speak to the medium springs, but can tell you my experience with the Heavy set up. Even with a Slee rear bumper and both swing outs, I can tell a difference in ride quality with my land cruiser loaded up versus empty (I have the heavy springs). For months I thought I may have done something wrong on installation of the lift. I had the extra weight associated with the rear bumper but ride quality still was pretty rough. Recently, I found myself needing to pick up some cattle feed and was in my land cruiser versus my pick up. Not wanting to make a second trip, I loaded down the cargo area with 300# of feed sacks. Wow, what a difference in ride quality. Shortly afterwards, we took a trip to Colorado with the cargo area loaded up and pulled a small trailer. Again, ride quality was much better with the extra weight.

To sum it up, if you decide to go with the heavy set up, expect the ride to be a little rough until you get the rear bumper and even after unless you have some weight in the cargo area.

Is your AHC broken?

No, its seems to be in good shape. Prior to the purchase of the vehicle I toggled it several times and did not notice any leaks or experience any issues.

Drive it a while before you tear it off. You have a user selectable 2+ inch lift already on your vehicle. When it dies, tear it off and replace it. The 100's with AHC drive great when the system is working well. I floated along at 85+ on the way to Cruise Moab 2014 with my AHC equipped 100 and it was great to drive and great to wheel while there.

That's my advice. Use your money for a full PM / baseline, (at Slee if you wish. They are awesome) You will be happier in the long run.

Check the 100 series video thread, I can do that stuff with factory AHC. https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/the-mud-100-series-videos-thread.496138/page-22#post-9312507

I would definitely run AHC for now, mine does not have it but i ran the stock suspension for a while with roll outs and a RTT.
If you plan on loading it down in the future i recomend going heavy duty. Mine are HD 1.5"lift and i barely have .75" without camping gear, just had to reorder 2.5" springs to get my lift back
