never loan your rig to a "friend" and how I converted to a 100 from an 80

So... I loaned my 80 series out to a buddy to pick up a table and chairs for his new apartment. An hour later his girlfriend called to tell me he had a "little bit of an accident." In a testament to the LC build quality and safety, he walked away with only a scratch on his finger after going off of a 10 ft drop, and then rolling the vehicle in a 30 feet out into a creek. So, I picked up a LX470 from another member of the board here. Pearl white, AHC, 170K, pretty much stock, with all major maintenance having been done by a Lexus dealership since the vehicle was new.

I know, I know, AHC... which actually brings me to my question.

Now, you can probably tell by my post count and the fact that the 80 was built, not bought, and not exactly stock that I like to do my research. I've searched and read as much as MUD, google, expedition portal, and even clublexus will allow me to. I know that you can effectively lift the vehicle by cranking the tbars and rocking spacers in the back.

Here's the dilemma though, I have 4 boys from ages 1-11, and most of the time in the vehicle is just me back and forth to work, or the wife and I with two of the kids. I'm also planning on a DISSENT front bumper with winch, and Luke from 4X4LABS already has my rear bumper with ladder and a tire swingout in the works.

Now, do I need to just ditch the AHC and step backwards in time to another OME setup like I had on the 80, or could I use LC tbars up front and 80 series stock rear springs with SLEE spring spacers that I have laying around to carry some of the weight and help the AHC out? I mean, I know this would "work", but would it work well, and ride reasonably plush?

The LX won't see the same type of technical tight trails that the locked 80 did, but will see some light offroad action as well as lots of overlanding. The 315s from the 80 are going on the LX, and I want to make sure that I can clear them, no matter what the terrain looks like. I also would like to keep the ride as nice as possible. While amazingly capable, the OME heavies on the 80 weren't exactly Lexus plush.

Upcoming mods in the works:
DISSENT front bumper w/ winch (XRC w/ synthetic line)
4X4LABS rear bumper w/ single swingout for tire carrier and ladder
Pro-Comp 1069 16x8 wheels
315 Duratracs
Slee AHC override (already in)
Slee 31m battery kit
DieHard 31M Marine

Have at my disposal
the 80 above (will be parting out)
stock 80 suspension
Slee rear spring spacers

Thanks for reading, and your thoughts are more than welcome.

Holy cow. That's awful!!!

That is a sorry sight. I'm glad everyone is okay from the crash. I borrowed a buddies 80 for a week while I was looking for my 100. Fortunately, I didn't crash it. He would have handled it well, but I would have felt horrible. Did you bust your friends ball at all?

Forgot to mention, with the spacers and tbar swap, I'd also do the AHC sensor lift of course.

In regards to my friend. He says he was only going 25mph, and a rear wheel slipped. You know, in the permanent 4wd vehicle on Duratracs that I haven't been able to make lose traction when I've tried. So, I honestly haven't trusted myself to say much about it and still be cordial. I did tell him that I flat out didn't believe him though, and why.

I'm a keep the AHC until it fails guy...there are a few of us on the boards. You will need to get a copy of Techstream up and running so that you can dial in neutral pressures and you should be good to go. I just got my 4x4 labs dual swingout installed and am currently running stock 80 springs. Also waiting on my front bumper from Ben, so we will running similar weight. With OPOR sliders from Metaltech also in play, the 80 springs were doing way too much of the work at stock height. Specs call for the rear pressure to be between 5.6-6.7...mine was at 3.9. With about 1.5" of sensor lift I was able to get that up to 5.0. Could get a little bit more lift, but didn't want to bring the front up any more than I had it...I'm running 295s and prefer to keep mine on the low side...will wait until I get the front bumper in place to see if I need a set of non-AHC torsion bars or if the AHC ones dampen well enough still...

Anyway, so said all of that to say your plan should work out just fine. Probably don't need the spacers, the 80 springs alone should put your pressure numbers back in line lifted with bumper in place. Front should just be a matter of tightening torsion bars and/or replacing as you have planned depending on ride preference...As for ride...I think my theoretically tired AHC still does pretty well. In 'comfort' mode it's currently a little bouncy at 70mph...I think some additional preload would help that. On the next setting of the dial, it controls the bounce and isn't too overly harsh to me...I think a "perfect" spot exists somewhere in between that I still need to find with some fine tuning...

I'm in favor of keeping the AHC until it dies, and that's why I ordered the spacers for the rear and the override switch.

But, I've got a well-backed fear that my pump may have just gone out as the truck now shows in Low, OFF light is flashing, and won't even go to N. It has been fine the past couple of weeks, but just all the sudden... So, now it is a pressing issue. I can probably pick up a pump for mid 200s, just weighing my options. I like the ride of the AHC a lot better than I did of my OME heavies on the 80. I'd love to see a couple pics of yours with the bumper on if you get an opportunity.

@hovers, I agree with codertimt, it's unlikely the pump failed. Get techstream hooked up and start checking height sensors.
I received your PM, once you diagnose the problem let me know and I'll see what parts I have to help you out.

@codertimt and @varythings thanks! Ordering a mini VCI cable from Amazon today ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00W97K7O6?tag=ihco-20 ), and going to hit my neighbor up to borrow his windows laptop. We only have Apple products and/or my 64 bit work laptop, and it is my understanding that the Techstream software won't function on any of the choices that I have at hand.
