It was obviously a pain but I did a few things differently than most of the posts I have seen so I thought it was worth mentioning. Didn't need to heat anything for one. After I took the bolt and shaft nut off I drilled a hole in the housing just above the shaft using a small frame air powered drill. I stuck the bit between the transmission cooler hard lines. I drilled all the way through the switch housing with a 13/64 bit. Then I threaded in a self tapping 1/4" screw. Thought I might get lucky and it would just jack right off the shaft but no go. I changed the self threading to a 2 inch long 1/4-20 bolt and put that all the way through and then used my pry bar between the bolt and pan lip to break the back out of the switch and remove. All that was left was the socket that the shaft goes through. It is made of pot metal so it breaks easily. I took a small nut breaker and found one spot that I could mount it and still get to the wrenching bolt. The socket broke clean through without much trouble and slid right off. To adjust it I had my son sit in the vehicle put the shifter in neutral and I turned it until the light, which shows you are in neutral next to the shift lever, came on. I did never seize the shaft and put anti corrosion spray around where the shaft comes through the switch.
