Hi, I am in the market for a 2nd gen. I am in Dallas and came across a potential in Reston VA.
Any recommendations on :
  1. What should I be asking and looking for?
  2. Any recommendations for a local mechanic who can do an inspection for me before we make the deal?
  3. Any other suggestions for out of state/long distance purchase?

Thank you in advance for any insight you are able to share.

I would like to buy a gen 2 sequoia or land cruiser 100 series. I would want someone to go over fuel trim and all the factory computer info along with the trans computer. I would want service records. And to check the frame for rust issues. And to look over the cam towers on the 5.7 v8 for oil leaks. Due to engine design repair of the oil leaks can run 3500 / 4000 dollars and oil drips on the exhaust manifolds.
I would want to know the trans fluid has been changed along with the front and rear differentials. Basic front end / brakes / suspension and exhaust and emission system should be looked at.
A toyota mechanic or shop that does lots of toyota work would be ideal.

Look for a clean non branded title.. no flood. No rebuild salvage. And the person or shop i am talking to should show me the current name on the title if a private person / owner.

Long distance you want someone to smell for cigarette smoking and mildew. To look at panel alignment and paint quality. If I went to see it I would buy a paint thickness guage. To check for work and bondo / accident repairs
