Need someone to check a 1999 100 series for me in Ventura CA

Hello,
I agree with the collected wisdom on this. I purchased a 100 with 70k in April 2013 and while I purchased it in the East (TN), aside from some surface rust on some of the components bolted to the frame, nothing too concerning.

I suppose more than anything, I would not categorically deny all right coast 100's without looking at a few. Also, while certainly corrosion is less of an issue in the West, generally both paint and interiors suffer from more UV damage. While certainly a sun damaged interior is preferable to metastatic rust, it is not always milk and honey.

Given the purchase price, running costs, et al, many of these have managed to live in a garage throughout. I am pretty sure that is why the one I have is so well preserved.

Lastly, if willing to fly cross country and the $23,333 of gas it will cost to drive back to MA, the price of having a PPI is less than it costs to fill half the tank. Maybe less in CA....

I live a mile from this 100 and have taken a close look at it for my cousin. He passed on it for several reasons, the first being the poor paint job. You're welcome to send me a pm and I can go into further detail if you like. I would pass if I were looking for one. My .02

Funny I've been looking at that LC as well. Wife and I haven't had to drive out to Ventura to look at it. I just looked at one that has 212k miles on it and the guy is asking $10500 for it. If was looking for a trail rig I would pick it for $9,500 but I'm really looking for a mall cruiser for the wife.

Dealer says he can do a glycol check on the tranny. Not sure what that would show.

I work at a Benz Dealership and on certain model C Class, there is affected radiators that are internally faulty and allow coolant to mix with the transmission fluid which has the cooler integrated in the radiator. This causes poor drivability, slipping, and in order to verify the issue we sample the transmission fluid by performing a "Glycol Test". If test results are positive, the vehicle gets an updated radiator, new torque converter and the system is flushed.

I have not heard of people experiencing this issue with Land Cruiser though?

Got to inspect yourself. My 100 series has been in Nevada and Texas, no rust. But every year I get under my 100 series and spray a can of Hammer coat rustoliuem, just because I like the bottom of my Hundy to look perfect. So if I took pictures of the bottom of my 100 you would see it looks to good to be true :)

I went and checked this truck out. He claims it's in excellent condition, and I disagree. He's asking above KBB, the tires are almost bald, and timing belt was supposed to be done 25k miles ago (not including any other maintenance you'd want to do - TB, water pump, starter, etc). Just FYI.

Yeah, I would have done it all myself but was traveling. I'm a little queasy about this 100 since it's been so spendy, and since my 80 with over 300,xxx miles has never let me down, but hopefully we're at the end of any big dollar problems. Ha, ha. Especially since I've got another long trip ahead of me.
I guess the lesson is: no matter how good it looks be careful.
