Hello been working on a project for some time and finally getting around to doing it but need some help. the light bar i'm working on is going to go between the roof rack bars; now i need to attach the bar and want to use the bolts that i guess are under the front attachment of the roof rack. now i need some help with what is under neath these plastic caps. Ok so here is what i need

1 part numbers for the actuall caps incase i break them both left and right
2 size of the bolts that are used to attach the roof rack?

does anyone have the actual schematic of the roof rack?? that would be great
its a 06 lx470 thanks again

forgot to ask this one also if any has taken these off their rigs any tips would be appreciated. trying to keep the set up clean and as close to stock i would not want to damge the roof rack but i want the part numbers incase i do. thanks again

you know, there are two pairs of bolts under the black plastic strip ahead of your rack feet. would be a lot easier to just build a lightbar that bolts up there then try to attach to the rack, and moves the lights more forward.

i thought of that and still may consider it but was looking into going thru the front caps and anchoring the bar to those bolts and putting the caps back on with the bar coming out. now i did see cain had gotten some braqckets for a roof rack that attached to the rack itself however i was worried that the bar may be to far back to work properly. the lights would have to be higher the farther back you go and i dont want to go to high b/c of parking garages etc. if anyone has ideas please post them the bar i getting is similar to the fj and a guy is gonna fabricate the attachment point

that looks like it should be on a boat. im sorry dont even think about putting that on your truck

:doh:ha you are funny here is a pic of the whole rig; im trying to work it in so its not so boatish

I agree that fuggly. What are you doing with that many light. Making a run to the border? Mmmm.. Taco Bell...

thanks yes i remeber you posting a little while ago which gave me inspiration to work on mine :bounce:

That's one of the coolest FJ's going. I like it!

thanks man. careful on making the installation clean. I liked the lights ontop, but soon after a while the 6" chrome housing got old, and during the day it didnt fit the trucks character. which opted me buying a Manik brushgaurd off a MUD member. and mounting them there. Much better IMO, but a clean and proper installation of a homemade roof rack, will look good. I suppose using those rectangle IPF style lights. would look much better than my smilie faced KC's

X2. Roof mounted lights are for heeps. They kill your clearance, mileage, and reflect off the hood. I'd put them on the bumper.

looks sick at night. Hood glare wasn't that bad shockingly. But to mount lights ontop is stupid, now that I've done it and been there. Here are some things I found problematic:

Looks silly in the day
No tilt function... Sunroof. Will hit bolts of lights
Loud as crap with roof open- wind ripping by those lights was insanse
Could here wind noise even with roof closed.
No garages
Had to run wires Down side of windsheild ( bad installation) and when it rains the wipers can catch the tape that came undone and rip your wiring/ wiper off. ( long day that was)
And other things.

Be careful man, I found quickly it was best to mount them upfront, on a bar/ or possibly a bumper. Hope this helped your planning
