Need some help...looking for correct steering linkage length

you adjust the tie rod length by measuring and setting the tyre toe in to the correct amount, the tie rod adjustment will always be specific to the wheels that are on the vehicle

I always take a note on the old ones screwing the new tie rods to the same depth with equal turns to suit measurement.
I then like to double check by jacking the front wheels off the ground putting a pin in the middle of each tyre then spin the pins to back of car taking measurement between each pin and then spin wheels forward until you adjust tie rods to suit above post on toe in. Toe in is when both wheels are closer on the front measurement.
I would then get a wheel alignment done checking both axles under weight. :)

I definitely have a better understanding. I thought you set the tie rod to some fsm length and adjust toe in from there. So I pointed my wheels as straight as possible and then installed the tie rods with equal threads exposed and did my best to measure the distance between the center of the tires at the front and back.
