So I just recently bought this 72 fj55 to go along with my 72 fj40. I got a 1987 2f to go along with it which is in decent shape and Im not sure if it ran coming out of the previous cruiser or not. The 55 still has the original F engine with a large hole in the block so once I remove that I will drop the 2f in there. I know I need to make some minor adjustments to make the 2f fit in there, but I was wondering if I should get the 2f rebuilt while I have it out and mobile and not risk getting it in there and it not running properly. I have somemoney saved for the 55 and was wondering if getting the 2f rebuilt would be the best use of my funds or if it should go toward something else.

It would be easy enough to pull the compression numbers and run that 2F on the stand before you drop it in. All you need is 12V for the starter, ignition, and idle cutoff solenoid for the carb.

Jason did basically the same thing in his 55. Might want to shoot him a PM or I'm sure he'll chime in later. JFZ80....

I don't have any advice for the motor besides what has already been said, but I'm glad there is another 55 in Raleigh...hopefully I get to see it soon

Absolutely. I have a little while until it's out on the road so I'm driving the 40 until then but once it's done we'll have the meet up. Do you own the 55 in Cameron village?

Personally before a motor i'd spend money making sure all rust is taken care off... the hardest thing for a 55 is finding new panels.

i've always thought a drive train out of a suburban or blazer would be a great fit for a big pig like that..... a D-max one would be awesome if you won the lottery :grinpimp:

My dream DD / Tow rig has always been a 55 w/ 6.6 DMax drivetrain... like you said, a lottery dream.

Unfortunately, I did not win the $640 mil despite all the tickets I bought, so I will just have to stick with what I got .

I have a couple of front fenders that are in a little better shape as far as rust is concerned, but I am planning on stripping it down to the frame and just bought 6 50lb bags of black diamond abrasive and 3 respirators to tackle that rust.

Ill update with some more pictures as the project continues, but thanks for the advice

Yea..that's my blue and white pig in Cameron village. There are at least 2 other (nicer) ones around the area as well.

Thats a nice looking pig. I drove by there twice this week with my green 40 hoping to take a closer look at it. I live in 5 points and drive by there on a regular basis and always wondered who owned it
