Hey guys, I'm having idle issues with my truck, and my UltraGauge is giving me engine temperature readings in negative values sometimes at start up, for instance it will read -15, then jump to 180, and then back into the negative range. I'm positive that my engine coolant temperature sensor is faulty.

Does anybody know the Toyota part number for the temperature sensor that communicates with the ECU?

Wow, I'm really surprised no one answered you on this one.

89422-20010 is what you want. At least that's the # for my '94.

I almost never order parts by number from my local dealerships. Much easier to ask for it by name. That way if there's a problem it will be their responsibility. If you order by number and it's the wrong part you're stuck with it, and it's your own fault, either wrote it down wrong, or looked it up wrong...

Your best bet is to make a relationship with a single source, like CDan, Sam or any of the others that frequent this forum. Having a relationship means that IF a mistake is made, you won't have to go thru a lot of crap to get it right.

That being said, I don't believe CDan would allow you to make that mistake in the first place ;)

All of THAT said, if you want to see a picture of the part, I have one in my garage. It's on my list of things to do when I'm in there. HAH!

I got my hands on a replacement sensor, and I am a little baffled as to where the OEM sensor is located. In searching prior threads and looking at a FSM diagram, I believed that it was the two-wire sensor above the oil filter, however when unplugging this sensor, it became apparent that it would not mate with the replacement sensor. Further, after unplugging the sensor and checking my Ultragauge, the gauge is still receiving data for engine coolant temperature, which rules out this particular sensor as being the one that the ECU uses.

I ran across another thread that suggested that the sensor was on the intake manifold, however I could not get a visual on it. Does anybody have a picture that clearly shows where the engine coolant temperature sensor that the ECU relies on is located?

There is two sensors.(As far as i know) I accidently pulled the wire out of the sensor by the oil filter and the factory gauge did not work. However my Ultragauge works. Also the sensor by the filter is 1 wire.

The sensors by the oil filter are not the correct ones, as I mentioned in my post, I unplugged the two-wire sensor near the oil filter, and the ultragauge still showed a temp reading.

I need to know where the engine control temperature that interacts with the ECU is located.

Anyone?

Bumping this up. I still have this nagging problem.
