Hello everyone

Inspection man is on my ass about the dash brake light not working, for the first time since i've had the cruiser. I'll remove the warning light assembly from the dash and see if they'll notice so i can pass inspection. Does anyone happen to know what year Toyota added the idiot lights?

I'd like to fix the issue anyway.

Ed says I need a new parking brake light switch, does anyone have one they'd sell me, possibly out of a parts truck? I'm going to check if Toyota still has them tomorrow too. Sor wants $15+handling fee+shipping, so i might go that route too. Anyone know of an available non oem replacement?
My switch has no guts inside it, just the outer case and wires.
This is the push switch that threads into the parking brake pull lever.

My light also doesn't come on when starting. My check seat belt light comes on, but not the brake light indicator on the dash. Ed says i'm missing a wire from the Alternator that sends current to a diode that disallows current to the dash brake light when the cruiser is turned on. I missed his explanation on how the light would momentarily turn on as a function check upon start up and why mine doesn't.

Talked to the PO, Dad, and he said it worked, but i call bull****. There are two reasons why it cannot work.

Anyone have experience with the idiot light not working? And yes i did change the bulb that happened to be burnt out.

It is never just one thing with electronics...

Typically in VA if the vehical has the light it has to work. I had a LTD once that had these light that lit up when you flipped on your turn signal. Took the bulb out and put a piece of foil tape over the socket. Looked like a large reflector.

Sounds more like the inspecter is being a pain

I think I might have a switch out of a 60. I'll take a look when I get home

Sam,

I think there is one on the parts truck behind my barn.

You can have it if it is still there.

Check it out on Friday.

Will do.

*well, i ripped the idiot lights out (what does that make me for doing that?) and passed inspection. I'm also thinking that i can MacGyver Engineer the missing guts from the switch, all i'm missing is the jumper that bridges the two contacts that the wires are connected to that the plunger moves back and forth.

Thanks Tom, John, and Ed.

Ed, when were you thinking about having another Cruiser Electrical Tech?
