Thanks for all the good advice so far guys. Now I have a new question. I have a 1985 60 with 210k on it. Runs pretty well but seems to be heating up a bit. I know most motors run pretty well at 200 so I'm not too stressed about the higher temp.
My question to the all knowing is whether to spend money on OME lift or yank the motor and have her rebuilt. I can pull the motor myself and got a machine shop that does good work. It isn't a DD and doesn't run bad at all. If you had $1200 in your pocket which route wood you take. Hopefully do motor this year than lift next or vice versa. thanks again for all the info.

its fun and all to lift your rig...but id choose to get it running good.

I'd say rebuild and add a turbo!! That's what I'd do with $1200 if my springs weren't bad.

Running a little hot does not neccessarily equal a rebuild. I'd figure out why it's running hot first and deal with that.

I agree. Probably thermostat, possibly water pump. Get it running well then look at mods.

But the lift....I mean if you lift it you will always have that, and if the water pump goes out, or the you need a thermostat, you'll find the money to fix it. Just have to play devil's advocate here. Personally, I know that my engine needs rebuilt before I get the OME, (285,000 miles and lots of oil in the engine bay), but I sure would be tempted. Besides what Floyd really wants here is somebody to convince him that he should buy the lift, so I say go for it

Run a compression test, figure out why its running hot, then decide. 210K is alot of miles for a normal engine, but there are plenty of 2Fs with way more on them.

Id like to lift mine also, but mine is a DD, so I need to keep it running first and foremost.

My compression numbers were really good 139-147. Replaced radiator, stat tested for exhaust in coolant and everything came out fine. PO put on a new water pump and generally they either work or don't. I recently put on new fan clutch, so the next thing is a new OEM radiator cap. I have that wonderful gurgle in the heater core area. There is definetly air somewhere in the system. I burped it but it came back so me thinks it has something to do with the cap. Fowldarr was right I just need that push for the lift. Thanks for all the advice.
