I'm looking for some left over monsta liner to experiment with. I want to see if I can spray urethane clear coat over monsta liner while it's still damp, looking for chemical reaction if any. I can spray clear coat over the liner after it dry but I will have to scuff up the liner and all that scuffing may show through. I'm located in Santa Ana and also in Downtown LA four days a week.

I only have some leftover quart of Durabak. Doubtful the chemical compounds are exactly the same as MonstaLiner. Besides, someday I'd like to get around to touching up or re-rolling the flares. Even with the UV protectant version of Durabak, they are fading a little.

Post up the results of you 'test' on it!

Outside of the potential chemical reaction, are you looking for a way to protect the liner from UV?

I'm hoping the clear coat will make it easier to clean, after reading through a few forums, people claimed when it's very hot, the liner get a little soft so I would like to avoid dirt and dust sticking. The clear coat will provide a little more protection against chipping and if it helps with UV, that will be a bonus.

I'm a total noob to body work so I did some reading on clear coats, looks like SPI universal clear is a good option but can be expensive. Anyone have suggestions on a decent cost effective clear coat? @jtwopark @ChiTown

Keep us posted!

I've only used Armorall on my Durabak'ed flares. Pretty and brings back the nice black color when cleaned and applied. They do collect dust on the road for sure. Washes of ok as is. Trouble I've got after a good 4-5 years IIRC is that it's fading some at this point.

Cool, I will see what I can whip up in this little experiment. I think dust will stay due to the texture regardless of clear coat, just hoping that it will make it easier to hose off. Maybe the clear coat will make my truck look slightly better than its current state :(
