Hi everyone

My car is 2008 FZJ71
engine 1FZ-F Gas. 4500

The manual guide says about the differential oil

Toyota Limited Slip Hypoid API Gl-5 75w90 Differential Oil...
can I use a single grade API GL-5 90

I can't find the original, that's why I'm asking

Same problem with manual transmission and transfer case

Toyota API GL 4 75 is not available

Can I use a single grade with my transfer case and transmission??

The temperature in our country in summer 45c
in winter 25c

Thanks alot.

Where are you located?
Can you buy amsoil or order it where you live?

Hi
I'm only asking that can I use single grade instead of multi gread ???

can I use a single grade API GL-5 90 instead of Toyota Limited Slip Hypoid API Gl-5 75w85 Differential Oi???

Can I use API Gl-4 90 instead of Toyota API GL 4 75w90 for transmission and transfer???

I am from Saudi Arabia, where we couldn't find the original Toyota Oil, and so is Amsoil
Thanks any way.

Single grade oils will be fine where your ambient temperatures do not vary very much.

GL4 vs. GL5 - they have different anti-wear properties and additives.
GL4 generally has less Sulfur in it and helps reduce synchros last longer.
GL5 is better with higher load hypoid type gears such as those found in differentials.

With GL5 oils, you should use an LSD additive to prevent clutch chatter in your Limited Slip Diff, which makes the operation of the unit smoother.

Thanks for respond John

So, I can use API GL-5 90 (single grade) in my differential with LSD additive

Like this ACdelco
How much should I use in my differential? one bottle for each!!??
( front differential capacity is 2.85 L)
( rear differential capacity is 2.4 L)

Thanks again.

Hello,

If you offroad in dunes alot then GP140 will be better, if you dont have much load then GP90 is fine. I have 140 in my differentials and 90 in my gearbox and transfer box. I go offroad every weekend in Dubai so you should be ok.

HI AGAIN

Need help help here

Can I use engine oil 10w30/40 in the transmission ??
I heard that Gl--4 75w90 is actually of equivalent viscosity to a engine (motor) oil 10w30 or 10w40.
Is that right??

No, you can not use engine oils in the transmissions of Land Cruisers.

Gear oils have anti wear agents that are specific to gearboxes.

Viscosity is really just about how a fluid pours... it would be like saying that water and vodka have similar pour characteristics so they can be used interchangeably, but if you drank it the effects would not be the same.

Thanks again John

I will use single grade Gl-4 90 to the transmission and transfer. And single grade GL-5 90 for the differentials.

Thank you.

The BJ70 manual says to fill the front differential to a maximum of 3L capacity but some people say to fill until it starts to drip out the fill hole. Following a knuckle job I have put 3.5L of API GL-5 90 in the front diff and it still has not dripped out the fill hole. What is the best recommended practice?
