MileHi
Hello all

Just made the decision to purchase an 81 FJ60. Went to CTS to get a 1000 dollar tune with valves being adjusted...put some E-85 in the tank..crossed my fingers and failed emissions because of High HCs at idle????? I refuse to spend 700 plus on more work on my FJ just to POSSIBLY get a waiver. Just seems like a rip off..when truckers driving for companies and state vehicles don't have to get emissions..while the average joe is forced to pay thousands of dollars just to possibly get a waiver. :bang:

Anyone have any suggestions as to where I should go, or what I should do to pass CO emissions? I've already read the post on cheating by hooking up the air pump to the air rail....but not sure if they will catch that since they seem to inspect under the hood with a fine tooth comb.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated....

purchase or download a copy of the emissions manual. You can purchase one by calling toyota materials distribution (Toyota Parts and Service) and ask for manual 36043E (1980 2F Emissions manual). Or you can download a copy via this thread: https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/187253-emissions-repair-guide-link.html.

The manual will give you some hints as to what could be wrong, but it will also give you test procedures for testing the system components to see what's working and what's not. You can do the work your self or loan the manual to your mechanic. Unless you have a mechanic that is very familiar with the 2F engine you're going to need this manual.

Thanks for the info. Colorado Toyota Specialists did a full tune and emissions check on my FJ. They were recommended as a specialty FJ shop in Colorado. I'm apprehensive about messing with my emissions and causing the truck to fail at more than HC's at idle.

Plus, I'm wondering if the E85 I put in before the test could have caused the high HC's. It idled very ruff after I put in the 85.

From what I've read on here..high HC's are a sign of unburnt gas..either too lean..or to rich??? Is this correct? Could I have put too much E85 in the tank before the test?:whoops:
