guys, i was under my lc today and noticed a broken hose right next to the lower radiator hose on the ps, what kind of cooler is this(that would be my guess) where should the hose be going? and i thought the cooler in front of my radiator was for my AT.
here is a pic of the broken hoseleft of the rad. hose, thanks in advance, also i have not had any divablity issues, and it has been broken since i bought the lc a few months ago.

That's a tranny fluid line! (There's a cooler in the rad.)

Maybe the PO bypassed it and went straight to the cooler in front of the rad??

Take a good look and let us know,

Curtis

That looks like the outlet from the ATF heat exchanger built into the radiator. It should be plumbed in series with the aux. transmission cooler in front of the radiator, assuming you have the towing package (or did I read somewhere on here that all US 80's came with the tow package?). If that broken line isn't causing a massive leak, perhaps the PO bypassed the radiator heat exchanger?

Beat me to it CJF!

Thanks guys, so it has two AT coolers? Does anyone have pics of the hose setup, still waiting for my fsm

so it has two AT coolers?

Yes. Very common for cars with an auto tranny to have a cooler in the bottom of the rad. Then for towing, etc. many add a second one in front of the rad.

Get under the rig and tell us what you see. OEM layout is out of the tranny, into the rad., then out of the rad. and into the auxilary cooler, then back to the tranny. With a good inspection you oughta be able to tell what's been messed with. (Although, if it took you a few months to notice a cut hose... :hhmm:) I kid; I kid.

C'mon, I really am curious as to what the PO was doing. :bounce:

Yup trans cooler line. Had to replace mine about 2 months ago because it had rotted real bad. Its an expensive piece of rubber trust me :censor:

How is not leaking :D?!!

from what the PO told me he hit a dear and destroyed the front bumper andd other parts, it has an aftermarket front AT cooler, so the lines that are going from the AT go straight to the cooler out front. I'm going to get a used factory cooler in the near future, but will try to get all the hoses that go along with it and the ones that go to the rad. as well. I'll take a look under it again tomorrow and take some more pics and see what else i'm missing.

took another look at the situation today, and sorta figured out how the hoses would run back and forth, just wondering could the at cooler in the rad. be cracked and leaking and the rad. not? and could i use fuel line hose or other hose and reconnect the correct way or do i need to get the correct at cooler lines( someone said they were expensive in this thread)? thanks for all the help

Doubtful that it's leaking if it's not leaking coolant.

Fuel line? No. Generic hydraulic hose from someplace that services heavy equipment; yes.
