need advise with Shift Solenoid E message (1 Viewer)

Just picked up a 01 Cruiser and when I put it in reverse it thumps. Check engine light was on for shift solenoid E. Drop the pan and check all solenoids cleaned them and put the pan back on but it didnt help. I need to know which one is shift solenoid E and whats the part no. Any help will be appreciated

They all thump when you put them in reverse- that is normal.
Shoot some grease into the zerk fittings on the driveshafts to mitigate the thump.

Not sure about the shift solenoid thing:
I would just clear the code and hope it doesn't come back.

Looks like "shift solenoid E" could be the solenoid that locks the torque converter above a certain speed. - but I am not 100% sure about this.

Can you feel the torque converter unlock when you step on the brakes at ~50 mph?

Looks like it might throw the code
i) if the solenoid is busted
ii) if the speed sensor is not working properly, or
iii) if there is a problem with the wiring to either solenoid or speed sensor

See if you can find a copy of the Service Manual and follow the trouble shooting flow chart for P0770.

Seems like there are a few other things to check before you replace the solenoid.

Something that has helped some of us with transmission codes, is to remove all electrical connectors to transmission and spray them with electrical contact cleaner. Then reattach, some folks put some dielectric grease on sealing surface for a better seal. You may have to search around to get some real cleaner, its not WD-40.
