Need advice

Finially got my cb and have a few questions about antenna stuff. I have a weak signal on the meter and I get noise through the speakers when the radio is on, I think my antenna is the problem. It is just a cheap one. If that is it what is a good brand and where is the best place to get one, I don't want a really long one, just one that works. Thanks in advance.......Ben

There are a bunch of threads in the outfitting section on cb's, installation, antenna's, etc. Search fcn will take you right to what you want.

I just got done with an update on my 80's CB setup. I went with a Cobra 19 and new antenna wiring yet it wasnt as good as I knew a basic system like this could be. I bought a SWR meter and jumper from my local CB getting place
($12.99) and even though I had just bought a Banjo? pretuned antenna I went back to the truck stop (yes I'm serious, best selection around) and bought a Firestick2 tuneable antenna. I hooked up the SWR meter and tuned it to 19 (what I listen to most) down to 1.5-1 ratio. Before the new antenna I was at almost 3-1(20 something % efficiency loss) ratio and was able to tune it to improve reception. Where is it mounted? What kind of Cb?

just got a cobra 29 with a 4 foot firestick antenna mounted to my ARB. The firestick antenna has my vote. It picks up really good signal and it is shorter than most metal whips. It is made out of fiberglass and also has a tuneable screw on the top allowing you to adjust it to whatever set up you have.

It is mounted under the dash. It's a midland mini i will post some pictures as soon as I figure this new camera out. I hav eheard alot of good things about firestick ant, that is what I think I will get and a swr meter. Thanks again ....

the meter can be bought for literally 12.99 if you look around. Remember to buy a little jumper cable to hook it up. The firestick is alot better than my Barjan
