I've had FJ62 for about 10 months. I've done minor things to it, fuel filter, plugs, wires, thermostat, master cylinder, and little things. I'm having a couple issues now that I think maybe TPS and I have one but I'm not gonna do it so I need a mechanic for that and also just looking for a Cruiser guy someone that when I have a problem and explain it he knows. I feel much more comfortable paying a Cruiser mechanic than just a mechanic to work on this thing.

Also I need body work and paint, anybody in particular you guys use?

There are few Cruiser mechanics around but none that I know of in that area. Butch Baker up in Bonham works on cruisers, his name on the forum is Texican.

Maybe some of the Fort Worth guys could help out with someone closer.

Opinions vary about mike dajda (dajda do-rite in NRH) but I have had nothing but good experiences myself.

Buddy and Geanna are the owners...Buddy is the mechanic.

He did the head gasket replacement on my 1997 80 Series. You can't go wrong with him or Butch. Buddy is closer and is a Cruiser guru. He is honest, but expensive...you get what you pay for IMHO.

Butch is good, knows cruisers, all in, he's not that much farther away.
If you go with Buddy, be patient....I went by his shop many times and never caught him. Have heard nothing but good things.
Dajda knows his stuff, but jacked around on my truck two different times....too many shiny squirrels

Thanks for the info. I decided if I'm gonna keep this thing I'm gonna do it all myself even though I would much rather be on some mountain side chasing an elk I figure I can get this squared away and and learn the truck and if I do get to the middle of no where I'll be able to work on it a little if needed.

I started out with checking codes and had a 22 and figured if I gotta replace that water temp sensor I'll replace the switch and the sender too. This brought the high idle I had down some.

I pulled the throttle body and cleaned it and replaced tps and cleaned CSI the next weekend.

Then on a hunting trip she just quit, my patcience was wearing thin already and I had considered selling it several times but I stuck with it and turns out I had a bad MAS so replaced that and we were running again.

Driving back from michigan last year this thing got about 12 mpg for the whole 1200 miles but over the next few months my mpg went down to about 8.5 and other than a high idle it didn't have a noticeable difference in how it ran.
I checked for vacuum leaks and found none then just started testing and replacing parts per FSM.

I think it was a combination of several 30 year old parts and a couple that just needed regular maintence but as of last night it is running better than it ever has since I've owned it and the idle is at 650.

It feels good to do things yourself and learn the vehicle but I gotta tell ya when the temps are in the 40s and I step outside on a November morning the last thing I wanna do is wrench on a truck but I hope to have it ready for several cross country hunting trips soon.

I've been taking the Jeep Wrangler on these trips for the last two years and I know you guys would rather see a cruiser in the mountains of montana than a Barbie jeep right?
