Well its time to upgrade stereo system. I have the factory AM/FM, cassette/CD deck with factory speakers in the front doors. Have a pair of Pioneer 6x9s in boxes in back. Took the 6x9s out of my old 91 runner where they were mounted in the side panels in the cargo area where they sounded great. Mounted in the side panels in the 97 and they sound like crap. Thats why they are in boxes. They do sound better like that, but I dont like them like that. Need sugestion for simple system with i pod hook up. Want to put new speakers in all 4 doors. And have a Bazooka 8 inch sub to replace the 6x9s with.

Check out these first two HUs. I have the second one, and love it. WIll play my iPod and charge at the same time. Also able to hook up Sirius with it. You can take a look at the other options as well.

As for speakers, just go through what fits, and find something you like both ability and price wise. Unless you get into the real expensive barands, they are generally the same. All are a good bump up from stock.

Check out Crutchfield and they will find what fits your vehicle they also have a variety of head unit depending on your budget.they also have speaker pods that mounts to the kick panel.

Most parts houses and walmart will have the harness back to the stock wiring. That's where I got one for my '99 Tacoma. Get a single din radio and add a little cubby hole to replace the remaining hole. IIRC my Taco was 6.25" all around to replace stock speakers. Crutchfield is good. I've gotten several radios from there over the years. Make sure it has RCA outputs so you can feed and amp if you run any kind of subwoofer. My current radio has 6 RCA jacks so I could have an amp for the door speakers and an amp for a woofer. At a minimum get one with an aux input jack so you can hook up any mp3 player.
