Need a new shifter or mine recovered.

I put one from a 3rd Gen 4Runner in mine. It's pretty nice.

You need the handle itself, as much OD switch wire as possible from the donor truck, and the plastic spacer and spring etc that's within the metal tube part of the shifter.

You'll need to cut your stock shifter handle metal tube down a bit and drill/tap 2 holes for the little handle mount screws. Then you pop out the stock plastic stuff/ spring that's within the metal tube and pop in the plastic stuff/ spring from the 4Runner. Connect the wires either way after running them through everything. It will all make sense once you get the stuff from the donor truck.

Here's my only picture. I can get more detailed ones soon. Maybe I'll make a searchable post cuz it's cheap, easy and looks nice better than stock IMHO.

There are several vendors on Mud that offer replacement shifters. Use the search feature and you'll find threads with vendor names and URLs.

Tear off the leather, it's rubber underneath (free). Cruiserparts.net sells a vinyl version and a replacement leather version. Many auto upholstery shops will recover them. Both of those options will be $100-$200.

You can send it out to be recovered for about $100. Had mine done at Dallas Custom Steering Wheel.

Man if you could do a write up on this with pics I would be very grateful!

That 4Runner shifter conversion is pretty cool. I like the way the 80 is set up from the factory, but I could see how others might prefer that. Nice job.

Glad to see someone went ahead with the 4Runner shifter. I have the 4Runner parts but never went through with the swap. My leather is ok, the motivating factor for me was to get more knee room.

Maybe tomorrow :hmm:
It may become worthy enough to add to the sticky list! I am sure going to try it. I just never liked the huge shifter in our trucks. It's just a shifter...I get it but man does that 3rd gen look sooo much better!
