I've been having a long running issue with my intake manifold leaking, apparently somewhere between the baseplate & carb. Can't idle without the choke and it's down on power (hills are a nightmare) The shop I had been taking it to had it for a month and just doesn't seem to have the expertise to deal with carbs so I'm looking elsewhere. Anyone with a good shop recommendation? I'd love to do it myself but I don't have the time this summer and need it done so I can use the truck normally. I've tried contacting Cruiser Solutions a dozen times but they never reply to email or voicemail :(

Ideally I'd love to find a place in northern MA or southern NH!

Kina at Northcountry Landcruisers in Madison NH or
Poor Wally's over in Pownal VT.
Either one of these guys can fix you up.

Is there an issue with the carb itself? Or is it just the carb insulator? Post some pictures of what your junk looks like.

I am thining you are refering to a 2F engine...?? Is it desmogged? I would be interested in helping you out. I am in NW CT. If you do have a 2F I'm sure you are in need of a quality rebuild. My local carb guy is a wizz and rebuilds these for me with great quality. They run great after a rebuild either smogged or desmogged.

I just looked thru his posts. He's got a 1985 60 with a Trollhole carb. The truck was in Peru so who knows what else was done to it. I have an 84 2F with a Trollhole carb and have no leakage there.

^^^^^Out of the few 60's I never drove any of them without doing a head gasket, intake, etc. first..All of them started as junker's. Also never had a trollhole carb. My carb guy always said how good of a carb the stock Aisin is when fully rebuilt and tuned. I always go with OEM when given the choice
BTW I am not a "shop" just a wrenching addict....

Sorry got wrapped up in packing all night and didnt have a chance to check the thread. Yes it's a 2F, The carb is a new (couple months) Trollhole, desmogged, actually had to get the carb rebuilt already because a fuel line came a part and got lots of bits all jammed up in it. The intake mani gasket was just replaced. The shop I had working on it said they did a smoke test (never heard of that before) and was getting leaking around the base of the carb/gasket/phenolic spacer. I'll run out at lunch break and snap some pictures of 'my junk' :)

what I've "heard" done to locate vacuum leaks it to get a propane torch, crack open the valve and then stick the tip, un-lit, around and into spots and if there is a RPM increase or smoothing of the idle you found the leak.

Take it over to R&D in Billerica. See Ricky. He is a great Mechanic. He is also very Fair on price, and he is local. Not really a toyota guy, but I think he can fix anything.

Any chance they are related to the towing company behind the shop? Curious because those wank-jobs scammed me and stole my old truck once.

I don't think so. Ricky bought the shop from Williams either last year or the year before. He was over on Innis drive. I trust him with all my work vans (6). He just had my 93 80 there for over a week while I was away. And my 08 audi for last week. I do most of my own work, and only send him stuff that I don't have time to do or feel comfortable doing.
