Anyone have one that I could borrow? Trying to perform the axle service starting this Thursday/Friday through the weekend. I can go to you and get it as long it's not to far from Kent/Federal Way area(s).

Mine is on back order and forgot to mention to the wife to expedite the purchase when she paid.
My dilemma, no worries if you all are tied up.

Thanks.

I'm in Federal Way. I think the FJ40 hub nuts are 54mm so I should have that size. I'll need to check tonight and let you know. PM me your name and number and I'll call you tonight.

Edit: after a little search I read my hub nuts ARE 54mm and I have a hub nut socket so I should be able to help you out. I just need to make sure I have it and didn't lend it to someone and forgot :) I tend to do that.

If that doesn't work, try texting William. My hub socket is in his garage.

He's out of town but might be able to coordinate with his lady.

Thanks srgould41 and Mike. I'll send you a pm srgould and go from there. If that doesn't work out, then I'll hot up William. FW is closer to me. I'm hoping to wrap up the items below around Thursday so hopefully you have it around and available.

Doing the PHH and various parts replacement(s)/maintenance before a trip on the holiday weekend. Already did the distributor o ring and moving onto the valve cover gasket. Throttle body cleaning and fuel filter too. I was considering taking off the intake manifold but it seems to be a little more labor intensive than I thought. So the PHH and the fuel filter will be addressed thought the dreaded front wheel access.

Any thoughts are welcomed, thanks fellas!

Steve,

I'm working on a '96 Land Cruiser. Sending a PM.

JJ,

Let me know how the throttle body cleaning goes. I need to do it to my '95.

Not sure if I'll do the whole upper intake manifold cleaning. Mine looks okay, there are some small o rings for the IAC and other sensor (forgot the name off the top of my head) on the throttle body unit. I'm considering to order those small o rings; taking off the hoses and sensors to clean the back side of the butterfly that has some oil deposits.

It was a pain to get the small coolant lines is off. Hopefully putting it all back will be cake.

Can I quote myself? :p

My upper intake looks nasty, what was I thinking. I cleaned behind the butterfly ( on TB) to the upper intake manifold for now. I'll come back and visit the whole intake system later. I had a bad PCV so I don't know how much of it contributed to the mess. The TB process wasn't as bad as the coolant lines over the valve cover and that area.

Still more to do, in the mean time here are a few shots of the valve cover. No photos of other stuff I was working on.

Valve Cover off:

cleaning out the grime:

Cleaned and ready; I used a wire brush and a hand drill. Almost polished which is why I might revisit the throttle body and intake manifold ;)

Some imperfections on the cleaning but overall its mostly done. I wish I had more time to spend on cleaning parts, its a chore itself. The majority of my time so far was just scrubbing the little things then :wrench:.

If you want some help Will or anyone else, let me know. I need to get out of my cave from time to time. Weekends are best as my daughter is starting school again.

One thing I did run into was the rear valve cover bolts were loose. If you suspect that your gasket is leaking, check the bolts. A simple re-torque can save you some headache and messy saturated oil infused parts. I neglected mine, in hindsight I should of been keen to that detail of the bolts. FWIW

I had that happen on my oil pan. I lost a quart of oil in 3 hours of wheeling.
