Does any one know where I can pick one up locally. Preferably in the Herndon/Chantilly area? Checked Sears and Lowes. I can order one on line that wll probably get here in time, need it mid next week, but 10.00 shipping for an 8.00 tap.

check with graingers in sterling. I have an account with them if thay have it and you need it.

Ace Hardware carries them in stock around here.

I got mine in a set Snap-On. Not a common size. Mac, Matco and Cornwell will also have it, but Snap-On taps are the best.

There are a dozen Snap-On reps in the area. Mike Cole is a great rep and he's in Oakton on Valeview Dr. There is a great Matco rep in Fairfax City on Forest Hills Dr.

You might also try the huge auto parts store in old town Herndon or the Fairfax Auto main warehouse in Fairfax.

Fastenall in Manassas on Euclid or Posner in Chantilly might be able to get one from their headquarters in MD. Posner Posner in Chantilly is OK but in MD their store is a religious experience if your into welding or metal working. They have a ton of fasteners, tools and gear.

You might also try Fisher's in Springfield. I doubt they'd have it but worth a call.

I had some stuff powder coated last year and had to break out this size to tap some threads. I was sweating it until I found it my set. It's one of those sizes that is hard to find when you need it but you don't use that often. I also have the helicoil in that size from an old project, have not used them in over 10 years.

Would that be the Frederick store? This would give me an excuse to pop the top off of Red and go for ride.

No, the store inside the beltway. I think it's in Capital Heights?

They have some neat stuff there. Once a year, they have an open house with free food, beer, etc. I used to sell them stuff when I worked for Dewalt.

Top it off and roll down here, I'm only about 8 miles from the beltway down 193.

Thnks guys. I'll make some calls tomorrow.

Greytandy, there is a steel supplier in Frederick that I hear is good, but I don't know anything about them other than I've heard they can get or even stock tube vs. pipe.

L8Shift, I already said Fischers! ;) That's a great store, they stock Hammerite paint from the UK. They also have a lot of Metric stuff and they are right next to another of my favorites, Woodcraft. Are you reading this Bob?

I haven't hit Fischers yet but I did get my tank repaired at Dolphin Auto on George Washington. I did hit the Woodcraft in Boston last week but couldn't find anything I needed.

How did that work out with the tank Bob? Was it a good referral? They did a great job on my 356C tank and on Jim's as well. He seemed like a really nice guy.

The tank seems OK but I haven't filled it yet; I've only done the blow test. I expected the tank to be gooped but he soldered it instead. Thanks for the referral.
