NC Engine Shop for 1997 1FZ-FE

Hello, not a member of ONSC but live in Greensboro and am looking for shop recommendations on a total overhaul of the 1FZ-FE in my 1997 40th anniversary. I can pull the engine myself and deliver, just don't have the time right now to tackle this project myself. She's got 330k on the clock still runs and drives decent, but I know for sure has a failing headgasket. I'd feel better rebuilding the bottom end now vs waiting for something to blow up.

Are you looking for a machine shop or a mechanic who can pull the motor apart and send it to their machine shop, etc?

Blackmon Imports. Call and ask for the owner Mike Blackmon. See if he would be interested. Not sure if he would be but he’ll tell you so if not. At Lexington and main st in high point. He works on a lot of cruisers but may or may not want to get into a rebuild.

X2 for trollhole or OTTAMM if there distance and their wait is acceptable.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm open to suggestions on either. In a perfect world it would be a shop that could do both, but more a mechanic that is familiar with Toyotas and Land Cruisers.

I don't have a personal in, but H&H is a well known LC specialist here in Charlotte. Could be worth a call and see if they can take it on or point you to their recommendation.

Second H&H. Guy did me right, had some obscure spare parts for old cruisers, etc.

I delivered by engine Auto Machine Shop in Fayetteville for a complete rebuild. The master rebuild kit from LCE was $700, and labor was $1300. I provided approximately $400 in OEM bits since I didn't trust from the kit. Ricky the owner said with parts in hand, it would take him 10 days. It took 5 months. He did good work and the price was reasonable but my OEM rear main still leaks. Auto Machine Shop has done a lot of Cruisers in the past. @fourtrax sent his head to him twice with quick turn around and no issues.

It's a option to consider if you're not in a rush.

Oh wow, 5 months vs 10 days is quite a difference. Thanks for all the help I'll work my way down the list and see if anybody can take on the project.

If you can pull it, I'd send it to Quality Auto Machine in Monroe. Mike Aldridge reworked my head for me in 3 days, with no prior notice.
