Navigation database in 2002 LX470 ...

Educate me how to update the database for the Navigation in my 2002 LX470.
I'm still a newbie about the LX as I have only owned this beast for a month now.
I read that there is a DVD player under the passenger seat and updates
are via DVD roms.

My Navigation screen shows ver.07.1. I think, but not sure that it is out of date.
I can burn DVDs - is there a site I can download a later navigation database?
Also, so I get the terminology correct, is my Navigation "Gen2" or "Gen3"?

The latest disc for your Gen2/3 system (assuming it's original) is PT219-GN23E-13.
Updates are released in Oct of each year and the current navigation dvd uses 2015 data, however the older Gen 2/3 systems haven't had new map data since 2013 i.e. the disc hasn't changed since the 2014 release. Also with Gen 2/3 systems you purchase either East Coast or West Coast - the difference is in points of interest and maybe some other trivial stuff. If you have the East version you still get all the road maps for the West and vice versa. Changing the disc is as simple as ignition on, remove the players plastic cover, eject old and insert new. Ensure you choose/check your home state in the menu setup as we in NC need to select zone US10. Updating discs also progressively updates firmware within the system so you can install new releases but can't go backwards and reinsert and older disc.
I've no experience with non OE vendors and their products so can't help there.
