Nav / MFD has no "night" mode

I had the problem of the display not going into night mode. went through the nav manual and didn't find any clues as to how to get it into night mode. did a quick search and found this thread.

The display settings are normal and normal, all i did was move the dash light dimmer from full 'bright' to one click left and the night mode was restored.

Check the little wheel to the left of the steering wheel that controls how bright your dash lights are. If you have that wheel cranked all the way up (to the right) then the display will never switch to night mode. I can't remember how I figured that out but it was driving me nuts for awhile. Haha.

I swear, as god is my witness, how in the world could someone own a beast like the LC without a site like this - seriously, I'm sure I would still be puttering around in my 1984 Jeep CJ-7 with all of three buttons if it weren't for this site.

I was cleaning all the plastic with Windex and I must have moved the dial mentioned above to have everything on bright.

Why doesn't my Nav go into night mode any more on my LX? It sure is bright driving at night time with the display on. Is there a photosensor somewhere that might have gone bad?

Come to think of it, I think the same thing is true for on our LC. I swear the display used to switch over to a black background with white letters at night time.

Turn your dimmer switch down "past the click" to the left a little.

I ran into this after a interior cleanup and forum helped again. That's one of the few bad designs on these trucks, at least usability wise

Although not on my LC, I just had this same scenario happen on my 4runner, so apparently this could apply to other Toyota vehicles for the many "dual" owners out there. It took a Man was it nice surprise when the bright white screen turned dark
