Just got the 2003 home, she's beautiful. Sonora Gold, mint shape, drives solid, I'm in love!!!

One thing it's missing is the cartridge for the DVD/CD. Does anyone know how many it holds (6 or 12?) - or maybe even a part #? Also, the NAV seems to work great but I thought it was run off of a DVD? Maybe you just load a new DVD in to upgrade to the new version of software and it loads it into memory?

It's on version 2.1 it says, is there an upgrade? How much and is it just the map or is there new functionality to the NAV interface as well?

I have a manual for the NAV system on order, and this might be a stupid question, but do regular DVDs play on that screen? Seems like they might, but I don't see the point really - back seat people probably can't see it that well (or can they?) and even with the great hack on this site to allow the DVD to play while driving I am not sure I want the distraction.... Anyway, just curious since I can't test it right now until I get a new cartridge..

You guys are the BOMB!!!

I can answer these questions as far as they pertain to a '03 LX (not sure if the LC is exactly the same).

1) DVD/CD cartridge for the audio system is in the center console, LX one holds 6 discs. Nav DVD is in the box under the passenger seat, which is why you can use the nav although you have no CD's/DVD's loaded in the magazine.

2) For the 03 LX, the nav is the generation-3 (either '01-03 or 00-03; something like that). '04-06 went to the gen-4. Lexus puts out an updated disc every year, I think. It's like ~$275 or so. Salesman told me it takes about 3 yrs for new streets to become updated. I can't remember exactly where, but someone either here or on Club lexus bought the disc and could tell us exactly what the changes were.

3) You can play regular DVD's on the screen and choose different languages, etc., but only when the e-brake is on and speed is zero (in other words, you're parked). Once the car moves, you only hear the sound. There's a mod you can do whereby you cut a couple of wires (one is the speed, other is the e-brake signal) to the nav and can watch DVD's while driving, but I'm not sure if this messes up any other functions. As you should know, there's an override that allows you to enter destinations in while moving (normally, you can't).
