Installed a new Sony head unit yesterday after ripping out my old unit last year. When all the dust settled I had one leftover wire (White green stripe) that I couldnt find on any factory wiring diagrams so I left it unconnected. No power to the wire in any of the key positions. It follows the rest of the wires into the main harness bundle behind the dash.

On the old head unit it was connected to "Remote power". Any ideas folks? Car is a '90 FJ62.

Pretty pleased with new stereo so far

I don’t know. But maybe….
Is it the trigger wire for the power antenna?

Up in the header under 'Resources' is a whole library of manuals. Download your manual and get into the
electrical diagrams.

Thanks I didnt think of that! Certainly could be, however none of the factory diagrams Ive seen show outputs of the radio connecting to the antenna, I have a switch on the dash for controlling the antenna

Thanks! I did a pretty thorough comb through the manuals for '88 and '90 and past forum threads - only White/Green wire I could referenced is for the heating system.

I believe it's an earth for the lighting curcuit which lights the switches and heater illumination when the headlights are on. Does it run back to the main cowl loom, or to the seoarate small loom connecting the rear defog and wiper switches?

That would make sense. It runs back the main harness but maybe the OG head unit had internal lighting which modern units do without. Thanks!
